Source code in VB6 (or whatever) for M$ Windows. If M$ has to hand it over, how long before it makes it onto the black market? Unscrupulous independent developers could use the code for a stripped down faster, better, more stable version of windows (called something else possibly), they could make it cheaper and maybe free! It could be the first OS to truly run Win32 and *NIX programs, since both sets of source codes would be available.
A couple of years for this to happen? Maybe...

If MS had to reveal their code I hope someone intelligent looks through it and points out how rubbish it is.

I admittedly have no proof that MS code is pants, but I'd stake my reputation on it.

Well, according to www.theregister.co.uk the judge said MS has to hand over their code to the states.  We'll see how long that actually takes to happen.  You know MS will try to squirm and wiggle their way out of it like they always do with their lawyer drag the feet bullshit. I have never seen such babies when the gun is pointed at them, but when MS holds the gun they are like sharks.

This could be the beginning of the end if the ruling actually goes through AND somebody competent (and not under Microsoft's influence) actually looks at the source code.  I wonder what repercussions the States would have to face if that source code was "accidentally" leaked out onto the internet and the open-source community . . . ?  Maybe this is just me, but I'd be willing to take the fall if it would bring Microsoft under control.  I wonder how altruistic our government officials are?  Everybody cross your fingers . . .

I'm not much on gambling but I would think the chances of M$ caving and saying "ok, we just figured out a way to separate the browser from the OS after all" will likely happen before they hand over their precious (em-bare-ass-ing) source code.

If it works, then great!  I used IEradicator mentioned in another post and that worked great too.  My computer hasn't crashed since then.  That's not to say that I'm going to be sticking with Windows.  As soon as I can safely repartition things (or find enough change to buy another harddrive), Linux is getting installed and Windows will only be used for the occasional gaming.  But until that happens,  its nice to know that I'll no longer have to worry about being kicked in the junk on a daily basis by my own computer.

Yes, i uninstalled IExplore and Outlook (both Outlook 97 and Outlook Express) using the "search and destroy method, by hand. BUT you can never be sure you got everything, and you're sure to have a registry full of redundant entries too, clogging up space, unless you can be assed to sort through it all and you have a bit of luck on yr side.
A program like IEradicator or PurgeIE is a great idea, so long as you trust the programmers! what with all the hoohaa about iexplore and security, you can only be sure of yr own security if you do it yrself.
Having said that, i just used IEradicator and found it to be ideal!

Are you serious?  I *thought* that even non-programmers could read that and find humor in it but I guess I was wrong.  It's structured in the format of a C program but if you actually read it I think you will see that it fits most of our gripes about M$ (well at least all of the gripes that have been with us since around 1995-96 timeframe when this was written).

I guess it would help to know decision branching statements like "if" and "switch", maybe I've been programming too long....  Sorry about that...
