i am going this evening. from what i hear it is a good action movie, but is lacking in some things that the first had. like the literary references and that "vibe" that made the matrix rock. i guess the action is more important this time.
that is what happens when you rewrite a script after your first movie is a huge success. i wish they would have stuck to the original plan.

I am going to see it in a few hours and throughout the day I've heard mixed feelings about it (some people in my town saw it last night because the local theater always shows big movies illegally the night before they come out). Some people say the plot sucks, some people say it rocks, but all of them agree on the bad-ass special effects. I can see how this movie cannot possibly have the same impact as the first, unless there's another twist (I was thinking they could figure out that the real world is a Matrix too and so is the next one and the next one and the next one but that may just be the drugs talking). Cool that Linux is in it though.

Psyjax: actually my topic is newer       . My stuff is in MATRIX: RELOADED. I saw it. There's even a reference to UNIX/Linux and SSH in it    :D    See post.

Edit: Or... not. But I did see it

Edit: Macman: yes it has a nice plot twist regarding the purpose of the One. The fight scenes and effects were amazing, and each fight scene is very long.

I've seen the Matrix, I still say Versus did a better job, in that it's a 3 hour long fight scene.
You know me.... really...

i hate to be the guy that gets home from the theater and instantly jumps on the computer to voice his opinion, but i am going to do it anyways.

it lacked in a lot of areas, and the effects weren't as mind-blowing as i expected. They were, however, done exceptionally well, and they do sorta raise the bar. again. as for plot, well, i am going to have to wait for the conclussion this november. they cut the story short (those dirty bastards) so any judgement of the plot or movie is based on only half the info. so i am not going to get into it. yet. I did think that the soundtrack was better. Instead of crystal method playing against the fight scene (the first matrix), the music and the fight scenes were choreographed/orchestrated to create a seamless blend between the two. And i thought the techno was very good with the instrumental elements. It was noticably better. The little rave party in zion had me wondering where the spice melange was, and why aren't there eyes blue? i will not spoil the ending for you, all i will say, was that it left us all saying WTF! with a big smile....
i guess i liked it.

I plan to see it tonight - and I will be keeping an eye out for all OS / computer related scenes.  ;)
My current plan is to yell when I see the ssh part "Linux owns joo ass Matrix boy!"

Yep, at the top of the terminal those 3 lovely words  "nmap run complete."  :D  It's too bad they cropped the remote OS type id, we could have seen what type of OS the agents use.  Well Trinity hacked it so I guess WIndows then.  ;)  Also did anyone else see in the scene with the old white haired guy (trying to avoid spoiling any suprises) that when he talked about "human evil" George W popped up on the screens behind him?

Good movie, the second part redeemed the first half...  in the first half the only good scene is the fight scene with the Mr Smiths, otherwise the best is from the Maitres' D on.  I dunno, I just hated the first half or so... Keanu Reeves wooden acting, that Dune homage dance scene and the over reliance on action / sfx kinda spoiled it.  But it got a lot better in the second half.     What did everyone else think?

Saw the first showing yesterday.

I thought it rocked.  Keeps w/ the philosophical aspect of it while blending in very good action and special effects.  Your friends probably couldn't comprehend the movie enought to appreciate it.  I suggest watching the first one right b4 u see the second one.

No offense but the second did lean more toward less philosophical analysis and more action.  If you got the first, you'll get the second.  Although their was a nice determinism "theme" played out through the movie.

I like what roger ebert had to say about the Matrix, "...no movie has lent itself to more psudo-philosophical BS than the matrix... " so true  :D

okay. i had a night to let it soak in. most of it anyways. one thing i am not happy with was the lack of subtlety in the philosophy. The first film had a darker, almost noir feel to it, and the philosophical elements weren't thrown in your face. It was a very nice film. Reloaded ignored that, and after every fight scene, preached predetermination & theory on what is humanity. It was annoying at times. Like "frenchie" (i cant remember his name, sorry) at the restaurant. He bugged me a bit. Its not that i "didn't get it", i just felt it was too much, and didnt leave me with the mind fuck the first matrix did. I can remember seeing the first one and marveling at the lighting and filming. The way the film was greener in the matrix, and more blue in the real world. The vertical elements, rain, and camera angles to suggest code scrolling by was too cool. as were the little things like neo in his bosses office, with the window washer. I always saw the water falling as representing the matrix itself, and having the washer wiping it away, represented or forshadowed neo overcoming it and gaining a sort of clarity. even the speech from his boss, telling neo he had to make a choice, though it was too obvious, was cool. The little biblical references were cool, but i thought were way too prominent in Reloaded. The book Neo opens to get "Choi" ( i think thats his name...) the software, was a great touch. I cant remember the name of it (my memory sucks ass today  ;)  ), but it was an influence in the writing of the matrix (as were things like "Ghost in the Shell"). Morpheus even quotes the book when he is explaining to neo what the matrix is. Anyways, i really could go on and on like this so i will stop with how cool the original matrix is. I didnt notice these things in this film. I will def have to go watch it again. I think i will after i leave work, and i will be on the look-out for the "cool shit".
I do like the movie though. If a film can keep me thinking about it, like this one is doing, thn it did something right. Im still getting my head around what the fuck happened at the end. WTF. he did what, WHAT?. I thought i was going to faint when i saw that. it was like a dream. very cool scene. the pan away from neo to, well, im not entirely sure who it was  ;)  ,fucked with me. is it the guy Smith took over in the beginning, or was it homeboy from the first one? if it either, then how the fuck? what? damn it. im going to go watch it again.

It surprised me that it had any of the philosphical stuff in it at all.  I was expecting a hyped up action flick w/ absolutely no meaning or character development.  I was quite pleased at the balance that was made b/t all those things.

Why didn't ur friends like the movie?  did the give a reason?  They better have an argument to back their shit up.
