okay. i had a night to let it soak in. most of it anyways. one thing i am not happy with was the lack of subtlety in the philosophy. The first film had a darker, almost noir feel to it, and the philosophical elements weren't thrown in your face. It was a very nice film. Reloaded ignored that, and after every fight scene, preached predetermination & theory on what is humanity. It was annoying at times. Like "frenchie" (i cant remember his name, sorry) at the restaurant. He bugged me a bit. Its not that i "didn't get it", i just felt it was too much, and didnt leave me with the mind fuck the first matrix did. I can remember seeing the first one and marveling at the lighting and filming. The way the film was greener in the matrix, and more blue in the real world. The vertical elements, rain, and camera angles to suggest code scrolling by was too cool. as were the little things like neo in his bosses office, with the window washer. I always saw the water falling as representing the matrix itself, and having the washer wiping it away, represented or forshadowed neo overcoming it and gaining a sort of clarity. even the speech from his boss, telling neo he had to make a choice, though it was too obvious, was cool. The little biblical references were cool, but i thought were way too prominent in Reloaded. The book Neo opens to get "Choi" ( i think thats his name...) the software, was a great touch. I cant remember the name of it (my memory sucks ass today
), but it was an influence in the writing of the matrix (as were things like "Ghost in the Shell"). Morpheus even quotes the book when he is explaining to neo what the matrix is. Anyways, i really could go on and on like this so i will stop with how cool the original matrix is. I didnt notice these things in this film. I will def have to go watch it again. I think i will after i leave work, and i will be on the look-out for the "cool shit".
I do like the movie though. If a film can keep me thinking about it, like this one is doing, thn it did something right. Im still getting my head around what the fuck happened at the end. WTF. he did what, WHAT?. I thought i was going to faint when i saw that. it was like a dream. very cool scene. the pan away from neo to, well, im not entirely sure who it was
,fucked with me. is it the guy Smith took over in the beginning, or was it homeboy from the first one? if it either, then how the fuck? what? damn it. im going to go watch it again.
