correcting my ways
« on: 1 December 2002, 15:49 »
I have decided (rather quickly) that using excessive ammounts of aquired software is not good for the developers or very rewarding for me so I am going to DELETE all my non-legitimately owned software tomorrow. This includes all M$ apps and several games, PSP, Photoshop, Dreamweave, etc...

I have decided that I want to be legitimate about what I use on my PC.

Comments are very welcome!

If I was forced to use a legitimate M$ product that I owned I would have to find my m$-dos 6.22 disks because that is the LAST m$ product I bought (and coincidentally the first)

The only difference between 'legitimate' and 'illegitimate' proprietary software is that with the former you're *paying* for the privilege of having your rights restricted.

Unfortunately propaganda has made people think it's wrong to share software and hence they feel guilty for it.

I believe abandonware wont ever be embraced by M$... after all, they bend you over the table and shove newer versions of their stinking piles of horseshit directly up your ass... and as for the last legitimate M$ product I bought, and the only one... Pinball Arcade  ;)

Im totally against pirated software, especially since I am a programmer. However I believe in "so-called" music piracy. Sharing mp3's is like recording a song off the radio. No one should be punished for it.

DON'T DELETE IT!!! Save it on a disk and if you're not going to use it at all, sell it on ebay and buy drugs.

So why should they be punished for copying software?

I often think that some major windowed software developers/vendors do not mind file sharing and or installing, copying pirated software etc.

Look at the exposure, usage, acceptance and at little or no cost to the company. With the exception of lost revenue, the company has not suffered

If the product/app if 'window dressed' and marketed effectively, it becomes standard practice.
A creature of habit has the potential to become a 'law' abiding paying customer.

A creature of habit with no choice or little knowledge becomes snared and enslaved to the companies products and services.

I am in the lenghty and often messy process of deleting non-legal software off all my (5+)pc's.

I am purchasing/evaluating other more realisticly priced alternatives, essential for my 'wintrenched' working/developing/playing desktop.

If you can read this quicker than your system boots up, you are on the path.

Mandrake Linux is looking good as the replacement 'operating system' for 3 pc's

you're exactly correct, this is why pirating software doesnt in any way make you a "rebel" against microsoft. It just helps them if you pirate windows because your helping them get their product to the masses and are promoting them even more if you pirate windows or MS software.

and i recommend RedHat 8.0 for you wb111
