Here, is a disgusting but well made xmms/winamp skin for your XP-alike guest account:

http://classic.winamp.com/skins/detail.jhtml;$sessionid$1QPHU5UMLFJPRTN241GBCZY?componentId=97713
Contains scenes of mild peril.

My aim is to make this guest account as much like windows xp as possible. It's my belief that my flatmates haven't even noticed the difference yet! if anybody knows anymore ways to customise icewm or get linux to look like windows, then do PM me, it's a little hobby project of mine now!

thats pretty insane... are you feeling well?

i understand what calum is doing. I would do the same thing. When friends come over and use the computer for whatever (internet, music, etc..) they see that i either have redhat8 or osx running. They scream bloody murder and then proceed to talk shit. But if the gui in linux looked like windows. i honestly dont think they will ever notice. They might find something on it they like, go home to their windows machine, then throw a fit that they dont have it on their system, then call me. Thats when i show them the light

that's a good approach actually, but i didn't actually think that far.
I'm proud of running linux. My 'windows' start bar will still say linux on it,
'internet explorer' will still say 'mozilla' (although i now have an IE
icon that i will be using), and i'll still have all the emacs, kppp, xmms
and so on running, it's just funny to me to think that windows is really just
its GUI, and i can emulate that just with some free skins and stuff off
the internet! i'll post another screenshot soon when it really looks like xp...

Calum, I have found a way to make Windows XP easier to bear when I use my fathers pc.

This is Windows XP running a very limited version of  the blackbox window manager. Also I installed Mozilla 1.1 on his computer. Its almost like being at home on linux.

Ok folks, this one is too big to show in here so I have to link to it:

http://www.geocities.com/akakubiyaro2/

I tried to run as much stuff as I could think of. Needless to say, with all that shit open my comp didn't even stutter.

Ahh! I love my computer, hell, I love OSX     :D

EDIT: Both xWindows and Windows98SE under VPC are running. See the xTerms? See the ugly ass myComputer desktop? All happily existing on one computer at the same time. It's almost satanic!

[edit - i was going to change it so it didn't link to it, since this is the huge images thread, but i realised that you must link to it since it is hosted on geocities...]

That is a nicely done Winamp skin...but that skin isn't going to fool a WMP user into thinking it is WMP that he/she is using.

The skin is nicely done, but the player doesn't look like WMP.

Here you can see how much Winamp with that skin looks like WMP *yeah right*(I have winamp with the WMP skin, WMP 9 in full mode and WMP 9 in small mode). There is no way that winamp is going to fool somebody into thinking it is WMP.

who ever fucking said that it was supposed to look like WMP???!@!!!#!$ Is there something wrong with your brain? It is meant to be a skin for winamp or xmms that will go with the XP theme (luna). In case you didnt know, winamp is for windows and therefore xmms will look like winamp on windows.

Doh, I thought the idea was to make someone using the XP look alike system think he/she is actually using XP(including the MS apps that come with XP). I was pointing out that the skin would not fool anyone...though it may fool a winamp user who uses that Media Player skin into thinking that XMMS w/that skin is Winamp(I doubt it though).

and before a certain party complains about how fuzzy it is, it's because i reduced it to 3/4 size and squished up the jpeg compression to make it weigh less on my server space. thank you.

That Linux desktop wouldn't fool anyone into thinking they are using Windows XP because,

1.The ugly, clunky looking clock.

2.Every icon on the wannabe taskbar has an ugly little box outline around it(unlike XP which has a smooth looking taskbar with smooth icon backgrounds that blend seamlessly into the taskbar).

3. The window scroll bars aren't consistant to the visual style.

While we are on the subject, that is the biggest ugliest mp3 player i have ever seen. I mean damn, i dont need a player that takes up 90% of my screen just so I can here mp3's. If you have to use Windows, use winamp.

What do you think the small mode is for(pictured in the top-righthand corner of the screenshot I posted last)?            The large mode is really only useful for videos. The mini WMP is actually smaller than Winap. If desktop space is a concern, you can minimize WMP to the taskbar and still have access to your player controls(unlike winamp unless you get the taskbar plugin)..and the taskbar player is capable of displaying a little video window next to/on top of the taskbar(depending on where the bar is located) so you can watch your video and do other things(the video window stays on top of other windows). Oh yeah, that song name tag in my pic goes away after about a second, so you can't say the name tag window gets in the way. ;P
