Yeah, the WMD is a fairy tale, just like Santa.

You know, he killed many, many people, but I still am feeling kinda sorry for him. I don't know why--I suppose seeing an old man getting caught by a bunch of Marines just doesn't make me cheery.

Or maybe it's guilt for invading a country under false pretexts.

don't feel sorry for him, his luck ran out. the US are making a huge palaver out of this considering they installed saddam in the firstplace, so they  are responsible for all the killing etc he did.

other dictators have been luckier. i am thinking of thatcher and pinochet to start with. and mugabe, that two faced racist. or how about some of the USSR leaders or the chinese ones? why aren't the US marhing into china or zimbabwe and sorting it out? i wonder if it might be because china and zimbabwe don't sell oil to the US?

and i do think that until the US comes up with ANY EVIDENCE AT ALL that iraq had long range weapons, i will have to consider the term "United States Intelligence" a complete oxymoron.

Careful. Everytime you insult the US government an American drops dead. Or at least leaves this forum.

Let's get the facts straight.  The USA didn't put Saddam Hussein in power.  He did it himself with the help of the Baath Party.  Also:

New Evidence on WMD's in Iraq:

Some of the many countries which helped arm Saddam Hussein:

Britain secretly helped to arm Saddam Hussein's Iraq

See this about France:

The weapons came from numerous countries places like Jordan, Saudi Arabia, France and Italy. Nearly every country which has weapons to deliver was supplying Saddam save the United States and Great Britain.

According to this Germany was the biggest offender.

So as you can see a lot of non-Americans are denying their part in the rise of Saddam Hussein and his war crimes.  Also, don't forget that Saddam Hussein got his tanks, MiG jets and Kalasnikov rifles from Russia.  You might have noticed if you bothered to look that a lot of people in the mid east use Russian made weapons.

The Americans had to clean up your mess as usual.

...yes, the party the CIA helped put into power in the 60s.

The CIA had nothing to do with it.  Your pathetic lies don't hide the fact that you are the one who's to blame for Saddam Hussein's regime.

The CIA put the Baath party into power in the 60s. Do you understand?

And the US openly supported Iraq during the 80s in its war against Iran, while Saddam was using chemical weapons on Iranians and on his own people. Your suggesting that the US is innocent of supporting Saddam is a joke.

The CIA didn't put the Baath party into power.  Syria did.  Iraq made their own chemical weapons, too.

Even if you somehow don't believe the CIA had a hand in the coup, it's at the very least undoubtable that Washington was happy about the Baath party coming to power, replacing a pro-soviet regime with a (brutal but) US-friendly one. The US has a long history of either assisting or appeasing fascist regimes, as long as it's in American corporate interests. For conservatives (or anyone else) to suggest that the US' (or any other country's) stance on Iraq is motivated by a sense of moral responsibility is naive beyond belief.
