I was actually thinking that "hey, Microsoft does give something of a damn about world issues" until I read THIS line:

I don't know about America, but in the Netherlands, companies get tax cuts if they donate to a good cause.

So we have a double standard here. Whenever you hear about a company donating, we know that it's free promotion and they get a tax cut.

Yeah, it works that way over here too. Taxes from Microsoft make up a big chunk of America's tax coffers.
