I wonder why MS don't include the cost of security holes in badly written software?

What about the cost of trojans, virus and all those other wonderful MS innovations?

Isn't it odd, then, that Microsoft thrives on precisely the opposite?

Only MS zelots believe that shit. We all know that they are full of it. I am sick and tired of those damn ads in PCmag that say MS costs less than Lin. Ugh!

I have a hard time believing that MS zealots would buy that horse hockey.  What I fail to understand is why Microsoft sees threats behind every corner, and believes it must bash its competition into submission rather than develop viable alternatives.  This kind of paranoid mudslinging is only drawing people away from MS, for good reason.  My advice to MS zealots: Linux users manage to get away with a console that's named BASH, and is subsequently battle-hardened from people using that name as their lone offense against Linux, so get some better arguments than "it's not cost-effective" before you EVER enter into an argument over OS viability.

Oh trust me, MS zelots will say anything to credit MS and bash Linux. They say WinXP SP2 firewall is the best, even though it is not out yet. They say Linux has less driver support. They say a lot of stupid shit.

How about this fact:

You use Linux and OSS, you won't have to worry about the BSA storming the doors of your business, and giving you the choice of "upgrading" all your MS software or going through a lawsuit that would cost more than the software (even if you won).

Microsoft is right... Windows DOES have better driver support. I tried running UT2004 and other new games in SuSE Linux 9 with my Radeon video card... it's a damn nightmare to get working. Windows, you run an EXE file to install the latest driver, two minutes later your playing the game. Too bad the rest of Windows is pretty fucked :)

This obviously MUST be EVIL.

because and EVIL company like MS CAN'T correct misconceptions about their own product.

and they CERTAINLY can't defend themselves against a verbal slaying by the makers of a competing product. OH NOSE MS is just too EVIL to do that, they MUST be spreading FUD!

I see a lot of warrantless OS bashing on all sides.  ok, one side should not have complete control of the floor.  One-sided arguments are not cool.

Welp, I disagree.  But then again i'm not a 'gamer.'

Its a lot more complicated than just 'clicking the exe install file.'  Alot of the times.  Drivers ment for that card and windows version STILL do not work.  It can and has fucked up the registry or the way windows displays the desktop on my machines.  Of course the M$ Fan boys then blame 3rd party apps and/or hardware.  Radeon isn't m$ so it won't work right?  Well concidering the fact  that m$ has been at the desktop game for a long time AND is supposed to have the most market share, you would think those 'driver install .exe's' would work the first time around.

I did a clean install of Win2k and SuSE 9 about a month ago, I literally just double clicked the ATI setup file, it opened, I clicked next twice and waited two minutes or so, then rebooted. It was a lot harder than that in SuSE 9. I can't really comment much more on the drivers in Windows issue.. since doing a clean install of 2k left me with only video drivers to install, and ATI's Windows drivers are pretty good.

But, today I upgraded to SuSE 9.1 and during the setup it told me I had a Radeon video card, and that hardware accleration was disabled. I checked a box and it was enabled, and when the install finished I could play games or whatever.. good stuff! SuSE 9.1 is real good :)

If instead, Windows made up 5% of all computers and Linux was on the other 95%, then Linux would have better driver support than Windows.

Even without the 95% market share, linux already has better support than that of windows.  In Linux you don't need to worry about the correct drivers fucking up on you.

The disadvantage of the Linux nVidia driver is that you have to shut down X for it, and you have a problem with some kernels (2.4 with nv support works the best).
The advantage is that you can tweak the shit out of it, which is all written in the README
