"George Bush says 'we are losing the war on drugs'. Well you know what that implies? There's a war going on, and people on drugs are winning it! Well what does that tell you about drugs? Some smart, creative motherfuckers on that side."  --Bill Hicks

i believe that slayer is no longer with american, god hates us all was released independantly (right?)

american had picked up sales on system of a down and is pushing american head charge as a replacement for slayer (though i doubt it will work)

SLAYAAAAAAH!!!   -i have always liked them

my buddy dan had a giant van, we painted slayer all over it... evil

I find it sad that bands like Rage Against the Machine are with an RIAA label. All their rhetoric about freedom and they're collaborating with an anti-freedom movement by releasing records through a member of a bastard organisation like that. Bands like them should be taking the lead in releasing their music Free online under some kind of copyleft licence and helping to end the stranglehold pigopolists have over art.

fucking right! they should change their name to "Secretly Quite Pleased About The Machine"

it's bands like the grateful dead, the stooges and the mc5 who pioneered this excellent free music idea and none of them went bankrupt, and the likes of green day and radiohead help a bit these days.

And on a related note, EMI is taking a significant stepright now by trying to shut down meetingpeopleiseasy.de who offer mp3s of live songs for free download. The landmark here is that the songs they offer are NOT available on record and so do not pose any threat to record sales. Go along to this page here and sign this petition, will you?

To:  EMI Record Label

Recently meetingpeopleiseasy.de hosted a live concert of Radiohead Live in Berlin on 09-11-01 on there website in mp3 format. It has been widely known for some time that Radiohead are supporters of the Mp3 format. Case in point, this quote from Rock&Roll Magazine, June 2000:

"Rock&Folk: You're putting your record company EMI in a difficult situation. You're going to play in concert your very awaited fourth album, six months before its release. What if pirates proliferated?

Radiohead: Even better. Fantastic! Bravo! Great! Put everything on MP3 guys!"

Or This one From the NME

"I wouldn't want to defend people who are making money out of our music but at the same time the important thing is to embrace this technology and not put your head in the sand like so many record companies have done because it is not going away.

"For us as a group it has given us a new lease of life because it has enabled us to do various things like perform live concerts, webcasts from our studio, shoot videos ourselves which cost a fraction of video budgets normally."

The webmaster of meetingpeopleiseasy.de recently posted this page Informing all that EMI has decided to take legal action against this site for hosting such live footage in mp3 format.

This is an outrage. It would be one thing if they were hosting studio released material where anyone might be able to download and not buy the released cd. But this is live footage. These files where not sold, there was no money exchanging hands, and there is no way EMI could profit from something that was never released.

I for one am fed up with record companies thinking they can stomp all over fans of a band simply because they have the money to do so. We need to put our collective foot down and make a stand.

Please sign this petition and encourage anyone you know to do so as well.

Absolutely right!
They did set the standards with that album.
Have you ever seen them on stage?
It's totally incredible how they can continue to produce such an energy while performing anthems like Angel of Death or jesus Saves .....
