What ever happened to computers ?
« on: 2 June 2003, 15:58 »
Back in the day of the commadore 64s ...sinclare spectrems and up to the days of the amiga.......
Computer users were happy........there computers worked......they was no such thing as viruses or adaware no need for all the antivirus or firewalls or adaware programs which clog todays computers...

Sure those computers have aged.......old obsolete....

But look what we got today people.....sure we got superfast computers....... but we got a badly built os holding it down......

Is it legal to sell such a piece of software that is  broken ?

Like if i bought something broken i bring it back to the store for a refund !

And how is it some older non microsoft computers run faster and do there work.......

While newer computers runing Microsoft OS is slow....crashes and there is thousends of viruses and nastys built for it ?

I see people buying high end computers people and they hook it up......install all this crap....install the crap that keeps the other crap from screwing up...then all they do is use there computers to play soladare and surf the net on a unstable and unsafe browser...

They want to design a website or paint.....so they have to upgrade the ram because the crappy OS there running is slowing the megafast computer down....in the first place and then they go out and buy a badly made program with full of bugs that they will be upgradeing for the rest of there lives....

So they fially upgrade there "new" computer to run all this crap.....there pockets are geting lighter...just to do things a old non m$ machine would have done better only a  lot simpler.

What is with all this eye candy and super fast graphics ???????

If i want to game i would get a games console....

u install all the darn servise packs u want.servise packs that should never be and antivirus and adaware and firewalls......because all you are doing is patching up somthing that should have worked in the first place and even at that when u reset youre silly machines it will run slower its bill gates way in saying u never win !!!!

There must be something illegal about Microsoft !!

End this thread to the dead thread section if u want i just had some anger to spew.

I hate to break it to you but Amigas were buggy as hell.  Don't you remember "left click to continue, right click to reboot?"  Happened all the freaking time.  :(  I still regret giving my Amiga 600 away though.  Those little kid's using it now had better be giving it the respect it deserves.

My idea of a perfect computer would be a Debian designed multi processor sparc box that was specifically set up to a: have all the peripherals you would want and b: have a kernel designed and optimized for that box.  (ie the Debian guys released a kernel that was tailored for that box.)  And also if Debian used GTK2 and some nice themes and a system administration GUI that could centralise control.  Other than that Debian is as close as I have got to perfect with a computer.  I love you Debian.

......i used a commadore 64 in my hay days.no matter howw much i pissed it off it never crashed...it was primitave but it worked.and there was no such thing as shuting it down it was just flick off the switch and it was a ok......i was only going back to that era.

then again how bad were amigas they compared to win me.. ?

I used to imagine as a kid how great computers of the future would be.....there problems would be gone......they would be faster......they will be no errors and they will be perfect.....looking at my primitive c64 dreaming up the wounders of how advanced it will all get...

then microsoft came along....    :(

What happened to computers was people. There weren't a whole slew of script kiddies and what not writing code in the mid 80's. Most people had yet to hear of the net, or even touch a computer.

I don't take my car back for a refund when the brakepads need to be replaced.

Today you have simpletons who don't tweak or delete thier temp files and delete a programs folder instead of uninstalling.

Well, simpler with a mac perhaps, but then thier pockets would be that much lighter.

PCs have come a wrong way. You don't pop a V10 in a model T. That just won't sell. And PC's offer far more variety and interactivity than consoles. Also, PC game makers need no contract with the PC manufacurer.

And every other program made for mac or linux requires no patches ever. That's darn amazing.

Bottom line after all these years we should have better made software that we do today.

Yeah u need new break pads when the old ones are worn.....however the car manufacturer would not sell u a car without brakepads what so ever   ;)

Yeah i dont mind upgrading to new software...however i want my old software to do a good job and for the new one just to have new features.
  :D

The problem with getting a refund on your purchase of Windows XP is that you don't have the right for a refund. Once you install it you agree to the disclaimer that says if it doesn't work the way you want it to, it's not Microsoft's fault. Most programs have this warranty because if they didnt, every time the program crashed they could get sued. the GPL has such a disclaimer.

It's all cuz we pushed this technology on ourselves before it was perfected, so we got things like Windows. Then we did the same thing with the internet. Aren't humans smart?

Who would buy a car that has a defective engine?  When buying cars those who have no idea what they are doing will get a knowledgable friend along to help them.  Yet when buying PC's everyone assumes the salesman knows what's best and gets Windows.  We need to start a "bring a geek to your next PC purchase" campaign.  ;)

I dunno many Windows PCs that don't run right outta the box. But for the few there undoubtedly are, car manufacturers end up with a few lemons now and then too.

And you'd have to be careful what geek you choose, or you'd end up with a $3000 machine.
