Uhm What site are you refering to?  By vhost do you mean a virtual DNS entry for your ever changing dynamic IP?

Details.......?????

Yeah, I think this is one of the MANY people I get e-mails from, after they get a vhost, asking "ok, cool.  So ummm, now how do I use it?"

(sigh)

I wish people would KNOW what they were doing before getting a vhost from me, potentially taking a name somebody else (someone with a clue) wanted and could've used.

In short, if you want to show off your cute little vhost on IRC (which is what most people get them for), you need:

- A static IP address.  Most people don't have this.

- Control over what your IP address reverses as.  If you're just a customer of some ISP (be it dialup, DSL, cable, etc.), chances are 99% that you don't have this.

OR

- Someone with access to the above, who's willing to set up an IRC bouncer on their box for you.

Which means that ultimately, not a whole lot of people are qualified to fully use a vhost.  The huge majority of IP addresses people give me for a vhost are dynamically-assigned ISP addresses.  I'll do a reverse lookup on them sometimes, out of curiosity, and this is the case a depressingly high percentage of the time.

Oh! now I get it...those microshit.com and other vhost.

Im still not sure what this has to do with IRC...which rocks by the way.

for an semi-static IP get a router....then your IP is leased for the max your isp will allow.

Then get one of those dynamic IP client things...I use dns2go.  this creates an actual DNS and MX entry for you in the dns2go DNS server....or whatever client you used.

Now run the dynamic dns client on your Linux box...so you necer have to reboot or deal with BSOD.

Now you are happy and can run your ftp server or whatever and your clients never have to remember your crappy dynamic IP......cool

ps.. if you get sendmail working with your MX entry tell my how....I can't get mine working

Sendmail has always worked fine for me.  What sort of problem are you having?  When you start sendmail can you "telnet 25" from an outside machine?
Someone please remove this account. Thanks...
