Of course that's true, and everyone knows that.  However, the Confederate flag and the concept of rascist rednecks without any education are for some reason tied together.  Stereotypical,of course, but that's the way it is.  The KKK has, for historical pre-rascist reasons, adopted the Confederate battle flag as one of their defining symbols, and they continue to use it to this day.  In fact the headquarters of the KKK is at Stonewall Georgia, a place where famous Confederate generals are monumented in rock.

So even though the Civil War was not wholly about slavery, there are strong ties between slavery, southern states, and rascism.  Which are not good.

In closing, let me say that moving to Mississippi is a bad idea.  Trust me, I lived there for 8 years.

I like Holland.
To bad your stuck with Balkenende.

Other countries I like: Cuba(their life spirit is amazing), all Scandinavic countries(nice and quiet), Russia(communism will come back) and Belgium isn't that bad either   ;)  .

Ps: I probably should also visit Canada(I know less to nothing about it).

I totally forgot about Cuba.  I want to go there so bad.  But the logistics of an American travelling to Cuba are kinda complicated.  I would have to get to Mexico, contact the Cuban embassy there, and obtain a tourist visa.  Then I could enter Cuba from Mexico.  Royal pain in the ass.

Cuba Libre Ahora!

Sounds bad for americans.
I visited Cuba for 8 months(2 years ago) and it rocked.

OK, but how about the Castro regime? I don't want to make assumptions based on biased hearsay, but I have read reports about numerous breaches of human rights, arbitrary imprisonments and almost non-existent freedom of speech.

Also, I've heard from visitors that people over there are very poor. I'm not sure whether being 'poor' means living in miserable life conditions or simply being less wealthy, and I don't know how much they work to be able to afford their necessities. Would you please explain debunk (or confirm) some myths regarding Cuba?

A guy I met who just sailed into Havana one afternoon said that Cuba was a beautiful and fantastic place.  He claimed that all stories we in the US hear about awful-Castro is just propaganda.

So one hearsay source or another?  Hmmm.

I would guess that Cuba does okay, considering that 50% of the world's wealth is not allowed to be spent there.  Many people love Castro, and I have a feeling that most of the people fleeing the country are either Batista-supporters or pro-US trouble-makers.  There were lots of people with strong American ties in Cuba before the revolution.  But I'm just talking, I've never been there, so I don't know for sure.
Ask me about Texas or Colorado!

Belarus. For serious! With the sudden influx of cash, everything in the country is being fixed up.

I took some pictures of what I'm talking about. I'll upload them later, because I'm a lazy jerk (now on 56k).

My current school (which, by the way, turns plain kids into little Einsteins, and scoffs at my American education) accepted a bunch of visitors from Norway, and I got to translate a wee bit.

They spoke English pretty well.
