With that in mind, I suggest Refalm gather up the emails of users who were posting before the outage, and tell them.  (Already did this for the mods.)  For example, how about that guy Aloone?  He was funny.

Yes, the forum software does actually... however, I'm unable to activate it since we don't have mail installed on this server

Course... you could always write a quick script to pull all the email addresses from the database and simply mail them all (if it's just that the forum doesn't support a method for email, but the server does)

Does the mail service have to run on the same box?  Or can it use another SMTP server (provided that server allows relaying from here)?  Because the latter can easily be arranged.

You can probably get away with either.  Most modern forum software packages can use an external SMTP server, or the local MTA.

vB should DEFINATELY support this, but as to whether or not UBB does, is another question entirely.

But I tested it with my ISP's server (thanks Doogee!), and it didn't work, but that really doesn't say anything
