Caldera ... SCO

On August 26, Caldera International changed their name to SCO Group. Caldera had acquired the former SCO Unix products, OpenServer Release 5 and UnixWare in 2001.

So now Caldera OpenUnix 8 ==> SCO UnixWare 7.1.2

Will they now rethink their attitude to the MES.
(re. the note on caldera on the main web page of MES  ;)  )

Anybody tried the SCO UnixWare 7.1.2 version?

Have a client that will be installing this late
Nov.

Any comments/info will be appreciated.
Microsoft apparently thinks that R&D stands for 'Rewrap & Disguise'.

I've used several versions of SCO and I think it is the absolute worst implementation of UNIX that ever existed. Linux blows it away. SCO has been used in businesses for a long time though and there still are a few business apps hanging around for it. If I were a customer I would much rather have those apps on Linux. Now, maybe Caldera will replace the old SCO UNIX with Caldera Linux and get the app vendors to port their code to the new system. It would be leaps and bounds better than the old SCO.

Seems they'll be moving more 'wards Linux - that is if I read this correctly.

The SCO Group said Tuesday it is beefing up its developer network to help push the creation of more applications that run on the Linux operating system.

This I would see as a feather in their cap - Yes/No/Maybe?  :D

It's hard to say. I never liked SCO and I never much cared for Caldera, and I don't have the greatest hope for United Linux. But if it helps drive app vendors to port to Linux then I guess it's a good thing. Once ported it's not much to move them to any distro.
