This whole argument is both stupid and pointless. I'm not sure what to make of the whole political situation here, but I can see that nobody is interested in taking it seriously. Similarly, the only people that want to continue allowing politics to be discussed on this board are quick to make rhetorical references to "free speech" while at the same time using that same opinion to quash those of others. THIS IS WRONG. It also, by the nature of its usage, effectively neutralizes the entire argument in the first place. You can discuss politics, but you can't discuss the possibility of not allowing such devisive issues to be discussed ON A COMPUTER FORUM. This whole debate is childish and, whatever the outcome, I am disappointed that there was even an argument on this front in the first place.
EDIT: Before anyone gets it through their head otherwise, this board is NOT a democracy. We do not vote in our admin nor our moderators, nor do we have any say in their ultimate decisions. It has no constitution, though we attempt to abide by basic human and civil rights. It is, by definition, a military dictatorship more than anything. What the members CAN do to preserve this society is do their best to stay in the good graces of the people with whom they must work. This kind of devisive argument is non-productive at best.
