Cool, nice thread

Putting marijuana in the same class as coke/speed/heroin/crack/whatever is totally and utter fucking rediculous. For starters, marijuana is not physically addictive (you're body doesn't need it or doesn't mind going without it) also how many people die because of marijuana? and how many people die of alcohol? How many families get fucked up by alcohol? and how many by marijuana? How many barfights get started because of alcohol? How many barfights get started because of pot?

There are just a few gripes I have with pot:

it's a very anti social drug, you're not really talkative and are a lot less likely to go out and meet new people if you're stoned

it makes your short term memory a bit hazy (but only to a limited extent)

Alcohol is a far worse drug then marijuana, however every 16 y/o kid here can go to the supermarket and buy some beer.

About legalization:

Legalizing pot is actually a very good move for every government to make, now I will hear some of you nay sayers ask why? Well, legalizing it really removes it from the criminal sphere associated to allmost every other kind of drug. It's also proven here in the Netherlands that the use of soft drugs does not create a hard drug addiction, we have about half a million pot smokers in holland (which is growing every year) yet we have about a hundred thousand people who use hard drugs (which is shrinking every year). If the use of soft drugs led to the use of hard drugs it is only because the soft drugs are sold by the same people who sell the hard drugs (they have no pot, so you just buy some LSD or something). However in most (90%) of all coffeeshops you will never ever enter again if you try and sell harddrugs there. Also in my opinion, what the fuck gives a government the right to tell it's people to not use a plant which can practically grow everywhere and has a lot of other uses then just as a drug. It's not like the government outlaws all coffee plants because caffeine is addictive? Furthermore, it's a huge tax income for goverments if they allow controlled sale of marijuana.

Oh and refalm, we call pot "wiet", which is the flower of the cannabis plant. And we call stuff "hashj" which actually is a compressed THC extract from the bark of the plant. The effect is roughly the same, but it's still different.

And shrooms are fucking filthy, like eating some french stinkcheese wrapped in sweatsocks and stored in a damp room for 4 weeks .....

Chooco:

marijuana itself doesn't contain any tar, if you smoke it without tabacco it actually cleans your lungs (slowly, but surely) however if used with tabacco your statement is allmost correct (though it's more like 6 times then 10   ;)  )

Paladin:

your friends didn't magically became assholes through smoking pot, however, smoking pot does emphasize some personality traits, e.g.:

someone who is pretty paranoid by nature will get extremly paranoid when smoking pot

someone who is pretty introvert will get extremely introvert when smoking pot

so they were already assholes, they just didn't show it   ;)

one more thing:

it's also extremely fucking cheap, I grow my own, I pay about 5 euro per plant (20 euro for 4 plants) which take about 12-16 weeks to grow of which I reap about 100-150 grams (at 5 euro/gram coffeeshop price, 100-150 grams for 20 euros is pretty fucking cheap  ;) ). I don't have some kind of super duper hyper special pot growing installation, I just use a lamp and a closet
(well ... and some various other cheap stuff, like Ph meters (marijuana likes ground Ph to be 7 spot on) and some nutricious goodies for the plants)

i don't really think weed emphasizes personality.... people who are retarded make the same stupid comments. smart people make somewhat stupid yet scientificaly provable statements.

everybody does get paranoid though... :(

hmm.

i have nothing against canabis, however i think it has its place.

i know from years of experience that people who smoke it tend to make it a way of life, and this does nobody any good even though it is a lot better than making any other drug into a way of life.

Also, hash has got 4 times the tar that tobacco has ounce for ounce. However, what is this you say about grass not having any tar in it? (grass, i would call the leaves and pollen of the plant, dried)

Also, i don't smoke tobacco, so i would smoke canabis in a pipe if i were to begin doing so again, the muscle actions associated with smoking a pipe and holding the smoke inside the lungs is associated with a dramatic rise in the possibility of developing emphezema.

I am not in any way against canabis though, and i think it should be legalised (and closely regulated as a result) as soon as possible, but i think that one must be honest about all the down sides too.

Personality is not the same as intelligence. And not everyone gets paranoid, I don't get paranoid when smoking pot, it really calms me down and takes my mind of all the shit happening in my life. Some people will smoke pot and go paranoid about all the shit happening in their life. Smoking pot has different effects on different people (just like any other drug, for example my body cannot tolerate alcohol, if I drink 6 beers I end up throwing up all over the place)

It's also a really good anti depressivia, and a lot less addictive then prozac (regrettably, I speak out of experience  :( )

I read this in an article in the high life a year or 2 back, ofcourse I'm not a scientist so I can't vouch for it's accuracy. Also I only smoke it with tobacco, so this whole cleansing your lungs stuff doesn't even go up for me

Oh ... and I would call grass with leaves bad stuff  ;)  (you're meant to smoke the flowers, not the leaves (I assume that with pollen you mean the flower))

You are right when you say that it in general smoking pot creates a lifestyle but imho this is not necceserily a bad things. Going to pubs and drinking a lot of beer also creates a lifestyle, and I much rather spend time with people who are under the influence of pot then with people who are under the influence of alcohol. Though my experience with alcohol is limited (like I said, my ody doesn't tolerate it) I know for a fact that alcohol makes me do stuff I wouldn't normally do while I have never done something I wouldn't normally do under the influence of pot. Also I've never smoked so much that I didn't knew what I did the last day (and at times I smoked a *lot* of pot) while this is relatively easy to accomplish through the use of alcohol...

for the record (seeing as I didn't have anything to do today anyway) right now I am under the influence of pot (actually I'm smoking a blunt with some A quality moroccan hash right now, I'm in that few weeks no homegrown weed period, plants wont be ready for about a week or 3  ;) ), while that does affect my general state of mind, it doesn't effect e.g. my ability to communicate in a foreign language (or to communicate in general  ;) )

interesting that you feel the need ot be completely open about any canabis use, probably down to being from holland, myself, even though i have had about one pipe in the last 2 years, i still automatically hedge my bets when talking about my experiences with canabis. I have been present at several late night raids and in Orkney (where i am from originally) one of my friends, who has ME (the disease, not the 'operating system') was sentenced to six months in jail, during winter, for possessing 3 grams of hash at his house. He used it for medicinal purposes.

This was in the same week that our sheriff gave a guy a

Well Calum, I think my openness about my marijuana use stems more from the fact that you don't get arrested for using or possesing marijuana (well, not if you have 5 grams or less on you anyway) here then my need for being open about it.

In general people have a very bad (and way off) image of marijuana which is also one of the reasons why I am so open about it, to educate people otherwise (and to show them that not everyone who smokes pot fits the stereotypical "pothead" image).

I actually saw a while back here on a news background show a piece about the english pub owners coming to holland for a course about running a coffeeshop
They also mentioned that marijuana would be classified as a class C drug, which would actually be better then our policy (according to our laws, it *is* illegal, however the dutch government has a "gedoogbeleid" (dutch word, have no idea about translation, basically means a policy were they don't do anything about something which is illegal))

that is actually what is being proposed for canabis here as well, it would not be any better or worse, which is fine by me. It was supposed to happen this july, but is being put off for at least another year unfortunately (my sister has ME you see, and she still lives in Orkney, with it's anti canabis police force. Little do they care that orkney has the highest underage drinking problem in the UK, oh no, they prefer to catch people for possessing hash).

Only did it once to try it... it was a combination of both, which some say is the best.

get over the fact that weed will never be legalized, come on people, would the government actally do something that the people want, no, they will listen to the industry, and canibis has many uses other then helping you to become part of your favorite couch for a few hours. like alot of rope is made from hemp, hemp can be turned into paper/*and no, you can't get high off of it, sorry had to say that, so the idiots don't go off and say, "wow man, rolling papers made from weed" wouldn't be a bad product though...*/ and if we used hemp instead of the rainforests and other places. but no, that would kill anohter outdated busniss model, lets also think about the hemp seed, umm, food product/*agian, non-psychoactive, why do you think my friends bitch about seedy weed, that is when they by a some just to smoke*/ so there you go, why i don't think that the government is going to legalize it here. but i do think it should be legilized, and, have you ever seen somebody chainsmoke 24 joints? ok i should stop ranting right now
