are the mac users dead

Please no flames!
I must say wow it only took me like two hours to get my ibook running it is way cool all I can say is that it is a little bit diffrent. Ok i have not faced any major problems but I do feel that the mac user comunity is dead when I was using linux everything may not have been incredibly easy but I felt like a member of a comunity. I think that mac users don't help their brethrin out much.

There are other mac users where Iam studieng and they just say that I am not a mac guy they think Im a tinkerer a pc user well I love to tinker whats the point of having something that you do not know how to use fully?

So you maight say that linux people are a bit elitist but what the hell man I was a total novice when I joined but they treated me with rispect then I became a intermediate person but they still helped .

Is it just me but are you the majoroty of mac users just a bunch of novices who only know how to use your macs and never really want to learn more do you really ever ask questions.

All I can say is I didn't buy a mac because of the comunity I baught it because of the os But unless you can prove me wrong I feel like the mac users of this forum in partucular are really cold and just do not have a lust for knowledge. I feel like I'm in my business classroom this is just stuffy and coporate atleast try to prove me wrong

Or I will continue to think that this comunity is full of (shudders) retards
linux is wayyyyy cool
windows plain sucks

No. Generally the mac community is as helpful and embracing as the linux community. However, and maybe its just me, but the majority of linux users here seem anti-mac. In fact, it feels like we are constantly defending our platform of choice. I apologize if i come off as an eltist asshole mac user, it is just a product of constantly being on the defensive.

Of course. I could just be misinterpreting peoples comments and everyone does value the mac users presence here.

Well Kibi, you are welcome to ask questions here at any time and I'll be much abliged to help, as will Ecyle, Macman, etc.

Also, you may want to check out the Apple forums, at   Apple.com. Some great resource, comunity/forum, sites as well, are:

http://www.LowEndMac.com/
http://www.macslash.com/
http://www.macnn.com/
http://www.resexcellence.com/  <---slow, but awsome!
http://osx.hyperjeff.net/Apps/
http://apple.slashdot.org/

And that's just off the top of my head  :D

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with some jerks, but you will find that with a little looking and politeness, there is plenty of Mac related info, and community. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with, or if these links helped.

Your friendly moderator, Psyjax.

Sorry Kiba....

Been away from these forums for a while (actually working ...hard).

But to emphasise what psyjax, Ecsyle und Faust have said, any questions pass 'em this way.
Actually here's an interesting one, if anything because you can access it through sherlock:

sherlock://sherlock.clan-mac.com/channels/macosxhints/SherlockChannel.xml

(this forum puts http:// infront of href's so it don't quite work as it should, just put the above into the safari / Moz address bar)

Actually as a sideline follow this link for more sherlock channels:

http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Operating_Systems/Mac_OS/Internet/Sherlock/Channels/

I would help you if I could kiba, but I really don't know that much technical stuff. The lack of help that has been in the Mac Forum lately may be a result of Erudition because I know many Mac users went there.

Well. Maybe its time to open the gates here. This is an anti-ms site. Not a pro linux or pro mac site.
We all have our platform of choice. That isnt why we are here. We are here because of a common view. We dont like ms. Would be nice to stop bickering over who's os is better. Because we all know that anything is better than windows   ;)   [/derail]

As a Windoze user at home and a part-time Mac user at school, I do feel that the Mac users are less visible than before at Microsuck. But that's mostly because Linux users here seem to be hogging the spotlight. What's worse is that many of them are anti-Mac, too. This is a shame, because the Mac is such a great platform, and I think it should be more endorsed on this forum.

I plan to fully switch to the Mac this summer. It's not easy to justify the purchase, though, because my dad's a peecee guy, and he knows very little about the Mac (I do have the money, but since he's the one who maintains the hardware, I have to convince him that the Mac can be a workable solution).

In the mean time, I can still be a full-time Mac advocate.

Don't you think that's a little exaggerated?

...
Linux users hogging the spot light?  If you want more stuff about Apple posted then POST MORE STUFF ABOUT APPLE.  I'm not going to stop posting stuff about Linux just because you want Linux users to give you all their attention.
I don't even bother posting here anymore because everytime I do there will be something about "how crap Linux is."  Most of my posts are in response to someone asking for help with something to do with Linux.  Last time I did that (thread about an Apple user wanting to convert an old PC to a PPC Linux version and asking for help in doing so) the thread got filled with flaming from Apple users suggesting he try BeOS instead of Linux.  There isn't any point wasting my time here cos every time someone asks for help with Linux it gets turned into an anti-Linux flaming thread.  Last time I was here Jimmy James and you Laukev were the worst for this.  Maybe if the posts are a little less extremist, ie "I'm staying away from Linux on PPC because I've decided it's even crapper than Linux on x86 if that's possible" you wouldn't look so "anti-linux"...

Now, now, I didn't mean to start a flame war, OK? Sorry if you misinterpreted the 'hogging the spotlight' statement. I didn't say that Linux users should shut up, I said was that Macs should be more endorsed on the forum; that could mean that 'more Mac users should speak up' or 'more Mac users should come to the forum'.

I hate reviving flame wars, but since you already did, as far as I remember (and I checked to make sure), Duo Maxwell was asking for a free OS, not Linux in particular. Also, neither I nor Jimmy James were the ones who started criticising Linux. We were responding to your attacks (especially Insomnia's) on BeOS, which understandably rather ticked us off.

Yeah Faust, I got my ass ripped from the Mac users over that BeOS thing too. Im here to help linux people and spread the word about linux to those who want an alternative from any other OS. I get talked down to because my OS of choice isnt as mature as theirs, and doesnt have huge amounts of commercial backing. Im not anti-mac, Im anti-asshole-mac-user.
