According to a friend of mine, someone developed an os called "Lindos" (apparently Microsoftt is suing over the name) which allows you to run both Linux and Windows smoothly and safely on the same computer at the same time.

Does anyone have any info on this or is my friend completely, totally, irreversibly, mentally insane?

SIDE NOTE: Is it just me, or is Windows XP's "remote access" feature the dumbest-ass idea this side of the mullet?
Sincerely,

vvydhyonchord

Your friend isn't insane, there really is a "Lindows", however it's still being developed.  Check it out at www.lindows.com.  It doesn't run Windows and Linux on the same computer at the same time, you're confusing it with something like VMware, which allows you to run Windows and Linux together; what it will actually do (hopefully) is allow you to run all your windows applications from linux using some form of WINE.  Seeing that WINE currently runs only about 50% of Windows apps, and few of them work as well as they do in Windows, they seem to have their work cut out for them.  MS must deem them a threat, however, or why would they waste time suing them?   :D

PS  Windows XP's "remote access" might seem like a useless feature on the outside, but don't be fooled!  It's actually a malicious trojan cleverly disguised as a useless feature that allows Bill Gates to access all the porn on your computer and then email it to your boss/wife/girlfriend/John Ashcroft.  It's wise to be informed about these things!

I to this day have not yet had a pleasurable experience with Wine and I've been waiting for one for a couple of years now.  But what can I expect?  I'm trying to run a piece of crap MS program.

As a side note, there is an entire thread on this site regarding Lindows. Might want to check it out...
Someone please remove this account. Thanks...

I had a pleasurable experience with Railroad Tycoon 2 and WINE, which ran better under wine then it did under windows xp, mIRC also runs excellent.... but for the rest I must agree with you, WINE is still too much of a beta (heck ... it's not even in beta stage, it's still in alpha stage) to be of any real use
If you can't learn to do something well, learn to enjoy doing it poorly.
