Microsoft Takes on Google...

"We do view Google more and more as a competitor. We believe that we can provide consumers with a better product and a better user experience. That's something that we're actively looking at doing," Bob Visse, director of marketing for Microsoft's MSN Internet services division, said.
give me a break! maybe that's alright for consumers, but i bet a lot of people don't see themselves that way. or maybe they do in the states, i don't know.

Visse said the company was making some significant investments in developing a better search engine. But the company has not offered specific plans.
what a crock of shit. this isn't even vapourware because people will just keep using google no matter how much hot air microsoft spouts. it will be interesting to see when they finally roll out their Microsoft(TM) Interactive Internet "Search and Display" Interface (or whatever) if a shitload of people will stupidly install it on their PCs and let it track their websearches for microsoft while google dies on its feet. this appears to be the way it works with most new microsoft releases. the dominant player always ends up being the third rate geek choice that nobody has ever heard of (think netscape, or macwrite, or CP/M, or Lotus 123) but one day i swear this will not happen. people will en masse start to say "fuck this for a game of soldiers, i want a choice in what i use, and while we're at it, let's stop this war that we have no business fighting and vote somebody decent in as president for a change". that will be the day when microsoft are on their way out and proper freedom of speech starts to make its comeback.

Microsoft will create their own flavor of search engine and it will probably force you into becoming a "Passport" member, then it will be the only search engine by default on all new Microsoft computers, finally they might play dirty and block google from being used with IE. Anything just so they can win. Google is proof positive that good service and top of the line attitude will get you further than money. Why does Microsoft have to own everything in computing?

thats scary. monopolise the security sector and the world reverts back to the dark ages.

I think me, and some other Linux geeks should charge on Redmond with axe's and swords, big hammers chanting "The Immagrant Song (Led Zeppelin)" and killing everything in sight, and that includes the moon.

People will keep using google, until the next Windows is released with automatic linking stuff to "Micrososft Search" (or whatever they call it).

Basicly the same thing they did to aquire a browser monopoly.

Translation: We haven't found a suitable technology we can steal.    ;)   WHUDDA CROCK!. Hell, they have yet to get this Dot Net thingie going, and now they're talking even more vaporware. If this thing ever takes off, I'll bet it comes just loaded with spyware, adware, and nagware to the extent it becomes nearly useless. Couple that with Messenger and HotMail, and watch the spam fly! You ain't seen nuttin' yet!

OTOH, I would almost get it just to see what happens if I enter "Linux" in the search window.     :D

Now the average company, in this situation would say I have a better product and use the simple fact that people like good stuff to gain popularity and make the other company go away.  I fear however, that MS will just destroy Google and they will rid the world of the best internet seach engine that ever existed.

First, they shove us their OS
Then, they shove us their Office suite
Now, they shove us their game console
Not to mention their browser and Mediaplayer (which i believe has fucked up RealNetworks)

If they go as far as fucking Google up, I swear, I swear I'll switch to a mac, but wait, they are shoving their office and browser on macs too! The bastards probably finance the war in iraq too
