well i was walking past the Sun Microsystems building on King William St earlier and i noiced that they have put up some big adverts for their
Sun LX50 servers, and lo and behold, they have 'Linux' in big letters all over them! well it's a bit misleading since they have a picture that appears to read 'Solaris Linux' (?).
Anyway, after my shock with IBM, it's just funny to see these big companies twisting and turning like a twisty turny thing about it. Sun's poster said that the LX50 would support 'enterprise level OpenSource technologies', interestingly enough, it also claims to 'provide' Solaris and Linux. I notice from Sun's actual site that the computer itself supports two systems, Sun Linux and Sun Solaris. I bet there are other multi processor alpha versions of linux that run on it, but maybe they mean that they would not support it if you ran those systems on it.
So, just a little update on my amusing corporate computer observations! I was a little excited about this since it is the first time i have seen a company promoting linux in real life! (i mean not on the internet and not in a magazine).
