Your statement is untrue. Did you think Red Hat, Sun, Mandrake, etc. are groups of people that make OS's for hobby or fun? No. They make Open Source products to benefit themselves.
For example, Sun created OpenOffice.org not to make the best office packet, but to deliver a stable and good core to StarOffice. Sun spends less this way on bug-fixes, coding and design, because an Open Source community is doing that for them.
The same story goes with Red Hat. The personal edition is just a good core for their "Advanced server" product.

well if you were to compile it and then run it, you would spot that it doesn't work, but then that's the case with an unmodified version of windows anyway.
as for china, the only reason microsoft are pandering to them (get it? panda? china? oh never mind...) is that china's government switched to linux last year and they want some of that juicy revenue back. why the chinese government even want windows source code is beyond me.

The bits they leave ot wont be required to run windows. Windows doesn't need to have extra code which spies on you. It's just an extra put in by microsoft.

Does the code even have to be compiled? The idea is that all the source code gets leaked(except the stuff that MS didn't include), eventually extremly effective skript kiddy toolz pop up everywhere and people start a mass anti-wind0ze panic(due to a security epedemic that won't stop). It will be impossible for MS to fix all these years of sloppy(and massive) code. Of course this is all in theroy...
