Office 2003 embrassment to Microsoft
« on: 12 December 2003, 22:12 »
quote:
Microsoft Corp. said on Friday that its latest version of Office software inadvertently contained a font featuring two swastikas, and said it would offer tools to remove and replace the offending characters from the program.
The swastika, which was made infamous by Nazi Germany, was included in Microsoft's "Bookshelf Symbol 7" font. That font was derived from a Japanese font set, said Microsoft Office product manager Simon Marks.

A patch has been issued:

the symbol was used in India in ages past

the Nazis took it and flipped it.

being backwards, this means they're fulfilling Nostradamnwrong's prophesy about a "bad guy" who would "try to take over" "the old world" or some bullshit like that

The swastika is a very ancient symbol indeed:

http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/15/151.html

"The swastika is a very old ideogram. The first such signs preserved to our days were found in the Euphrates-Tigris valley, and in some areas of the Indus valley. They seem to be more than 3,000 years old."

Oh thats right, its ok for america to condemn the world with braking human rights, its ok for america to condemn german and its nazi era but when the U.S. does the same thing, we should say, oh well, it only america...

Bullshit regardless of what you did in the past its STILL does not make it right for you to genaside a whole race.

Its still not right for you to practise nazism expecialy when it has already been prooven wrong!

How is it not a Nazi state?

You, have singled out every person who is different, be it race, sex and/or religion by labeling them 'terrorists'

You have killed your own people to justify a war

and you have taken the basic rights of everyone.

You can take all the offence you want.  Its still isn't going to top the reality of things.

Your country is no better than that of Nazi germany of its time

and YES you will be condemned for it because you are not exused from doing the same thing.

If you have a problem with this then put your money where your mouth is and stop with all the fear mongering and calling every muslim a terrorist!

Or at least join the marches and protest against what your goverment, what your country is doing!

Yes, its bush, yes its your goverment and not the people of america.

But then the same was in germany.  It was hitler and his goverment system, not the people of german!

And oh yes, the symbol has nothing to do with india.  If it does, please provide a link showing that it is so.

Other than that.

In that case for the symbol I stand corrected.

That swastika thing is funny. But my real question is What real world features did Microsoft add to Office 2003, that arent already included in Office XP, or Office 2000 for that matter?

For one thing, the colours that look even more immature than Windows XP.

XML support, IRM (almost the same as DRM) and further integration with IIS, Internet Explorer, etc.

How can you take this serious? I sure can't.

Really, if you make a program, don't insert your own colours, let the user deside.

And every year it is the same, and the next version will be the same.

But thanks to the convienince of ignorance every year people will still use it.
