www.gnu.org answers that, and www.stallman.org

All propatary software is a threat to the freedom of comuter software.

Both BeOS Max and BeOS DevEd are based on the Personal Edition of BeOS which was Free, therefore these guys have no right to sell their product, it MUST be free! Also this is the way BeOS looked since its inception in 97   ;)   -- what it looks like today has no bearing, it still kicks arse

As for Zeta, people can work on it, it is not free, it will cost something, these guys have not used any BeOS code as far as I know (it would be illegal to do so), and they have invested a lot of time and effort to make an OS that looks like, behaves like, and is a sucessor to BeOS, and can run all BeOS apps without any modification, that is qute a feat. If you do not like it tough

what makes you say that, poopyhead!   ;)     :D

good points, admiral.
still, i agree with stallman. software should be free, like speech should be free.

while i think there are some companies out there (apple, palm, riscos ltd and so on) who are doing really good work, most of them are working on proprietary software. also those companies are not really screwing people. none of them are market leaders, so it's usually to their benefit to release software that is genuinely good, in the hope thaT people will buy it for that reason.

No companies except microsoft rely on people buying their products simply because 'that's what we have at work' or 'that's what my mates all use'. This is why it is okay to entertain the idea of using proprietary software.

still a number of points spring to mind.
firstly, if a company goes bust, you're stuffed. Be went bust recently, and BeOS suffered a huge knock as a result. What if i spent
