Operating Systems > Not Quite Mainstream OSes
BeOS IS alive ;)
AdmiralAK:
Contrary to popular belief, BeOS did not die with its aquisition by Palm.
The zeta project (http://www.yellowyab.com) is making an OS that is the next generation of BeOS (it will be commercial). It is made from the ground up I believe and it will be binary compatible with BeOS 5 apps.
BeOS MAX Edition (http://www.beosmax.org) and BeOS DevEd (http://www.beosonline.com) are BeOS distros based on BeOS Personal Edition 5 which include all patches needed to run BeOS on modern architectures.
Finally the OpenBeOS project (http://www.openbeos.org) is making strides at creating its own distro
I am getting my copies tomorrow in the mail lol ;)

What does that mean exactly?
Would you rather everything was a linux?
(that's not an assumption, just a question)

Propartary? Did you mean proprietary X11? If so, what lead you to that conclusion? I think that it's nice to have more Operating Systems around as this gives people more choice!
BTW, indeed it looks a bit like KDE 1.0 but I really like the desktop look!
