Amiga, Inc. announced today that it has sold the Amiga Operating System to KMOS, Inc., a corporation which 'develops and distributes enabling technology.' no!

NO!

why? why do people do shit like that? having been known for the Amiga for nearly 20 years, they simply up and sell it all off one day to some nobody company that's probably gonna kill it.

why do the best ideas always get assraped by capitalists

Not anymore, but Amiga was as big as the Mac at one time. Until Apple planted their foot firmly in the video editing world in 1993 with the Quadra 840av (a fucking powerhouse at the time). Somewhere in there, though, Amiga stopped making comptuers and began to focus on upgrades and new software.

Now it seems that the vision is gone, just as in so many other of the original, visionary companies.

It's no big deal - Amiga inc never did anything much for AmigaOS4 - a company called Hyperion was contracted to develop it, and the only difference is that they're now developing for a different company.  The release date is what it always was ("When it's done"  ;)  )  More developments by the OS4 team have already happened since the announcement (ports of UAE, ScummVM, MAME and a C64 emulator).

Anyway, Amiga inc used to be a nobody startup called Amino themselves.

That's a shame. Although, I hope the new owner has the balls to act on this thing, and pump out some new versions of the Amiga OS.

OK, very few people used it, even less than the very few people who use NetBSD.

Yeah. Too bad the site looks like it was built in the early 90's and hasn't been updated since.   :(
