holy crap!

look at this! i'm going to try it out!

here's some apps for it, although i don't know how i would use a bootloader written in assembly language (that might sort out my lilo problems though). i suppose that's another thing i should learn about...

It's nice to know that development on advanced alternative OS's is on-going, particularly GPL'ed OS's.  This is a real nice looking system that will bear watching; thanks for the info & link!!

MoR, yes, i'll be able to try it out but what with both myself and my girlfriend starting studying in february, she's very dubious about me playing around in any way with the computer. she wants me to just put something on there that works and leave it alone!

fair comment i know, which is why we got the pentium 75 laptop, but i am sick of laptops and their idiosyncracies. until we get a second machine though, i think experimenting is going to be a bit off limits  :(

we're probably getting a machine with a 60GB hard drive, and i'm going to be limited to one copy of linux with mozilla and openoffice!  :(

i bet even putting freebsd on a separate partition will be out of bounds!

umm, in need of x86 parts???
let me guess, you don't a room full of computer parts laying around like i do/*also has a futon, surround sound, game consoles, 19" tv, kick ass speakers, but were not discussing my room now are we?*/ go find dead computers, and buy them cheaply. like ask friends about anciet stuff, like that compaq that isn't cool like my new giga bajillion hertz dell is becuase its from 1995 or something like that
x86: a hack on a hack of a hackway

ppc: the fruity way
mips: the graphical way

well, we're kind of short on space, and we do not plan to settle in london, so buying one desktop is a bit of a hassle spacewise, having two, plus a lot of arts around might just make it a lot worse! once i'm settled more then i might think about the bits.

.NET is better because it supports "Webservices" and has the ".NET Connecter" to make sure you are ".NET Connected".
