Does this work?
« on: 25 November 2002, 20:39 »
OK, I have had a number of people complain that my site doesn't work.

If none of these work, then you are in that group:
akgames.webhop.net
http://www.akgames.net:8000/

If you can't get to these, I would like to know. I also would like (Don't worry, these aren't hard questions):
1) Name of your ISP
2) Type of connection
3) If you are behind a firewall
4) If you have attempted to disconnect or turn off that firewall and try to access the site
5) If you know your ISP blocks certain ports
6) If you know your firewall is blocking http transmissions on ports 69 and/or 8000

Thanks guys! It will help make my site work...

Dude, port 69 is the "tftp" port. You need to stick it on a unused port that isn't a common service (higher than 1024 preferably). I can imagine quite a lot of providers filter this port. In fact most proxy servers only allow a few ports under port 1024 and then allow all from port 1025-65535. Here's a clip from my "squid.conf" which is where I am prevented from reaching you on 69:

Code: [Select]

This is surely where the problem lies. Sure I could just add "69" to the Safe_ports list but that won't help anyone else using a proxy with similar rules. Use 6969, that's not claimed by anything else.

So you can see it at work, but not at home?

The rest of you: Thanks for your input.
