well im getting the linux kit for the ps2 for christmas and I was wondering what would be easier to network it to linux or windows, and what all would i need to network them just a crossover cable or would it be better to connect them through a hub, any comments would be appreciated

A hub gives you the potential for further expansion later on, so if your not struggling for money buy one of them. Hell if you have money to spare go all the way now and buy a switch.

FUCK!!, i just figured out from my not so loving mother that if i get it and she buys the crap for the network i have to network my brothers computer with it what a load of BS, anyways how would i network linux and windows?

There are a bazillion ways to network machines together. First you need to figure out what capabilities you want to have on your network. Do you have cable or DSL? If so, do you have a Cable/DSL firewall/router (LinkSys etc)? Do you want both machines to have access to the internet or just with each other?

ok, the easy way to do it. haul your ass out to compusa and by a $60 dlink router, don't let the fact that its surrounded by $300 peices of equipment bother you, it kicks ass the model # is di-604. a it is a 4 port ethernet device/*don't rember if its a switch*/ the benifits of this is that you can network em cheap, and when you get broadband, you already have a router. and the thing is a hardware dhcp server. and since linux and windows speak tcp/ip it only depends on what you want to do with it.

well basically i want to be able to play my mp3s on my pc and browse the net on the ps2, most of the equipment i can get from my schools tech administrator like ethernet cards cable and hubs basically i ment software wise and what i would need to know and of course the equipment
