okay. have you heard of DOS attacks? well that's what's happened to your email account. it only happens on windows servers, if your hotmail account had been on some unix server this would never have happened.
Now as you'd imagine, to recover from a DOS attack, you need to use a DOS prompt. You can't just use the one from the start menu, as that's not real DOS and doesn't have some of the functions (what you think microsoft want to make it easy for you to break into hotmail?) anyway, so what you have to do is make a DOS startup disk, from the control panel. in some versions of windows, you do this from 'Add/Remove programs' for some reason. One more important stage is as follows: Download this zip file, open it and copy the file 'addressbook.bat' onto your new windows startup disk. You must then make a text file containing your hotmail address and password in the following format:
--- Code: ---
--- End code ---
where the values in italics are your real login name and password, and save it as a file called 'username.txt' on your floppy drive (note, it must actually be called username.txt, don't use your actual username here.
Now reboot the machine with the new startup floppy in the drive, and you should now see a DOS prompt saying a:\>.
Just type 'addressbook' at the prompt, press enter and press enter again, and wait while the program retreives your data. You will find yout data as a text file on your C: drive when you reboot into windows.
