I was a programmer and a lead systems administrator for my shop in the Air Force. But we also had security people that were the cracker type of hackers (which is what I think you mean) to do security audits on each organization. My systems were the only ones on the base that they were not able to break in to. That's sort of scary but it is a way to identify security problems and get them corrected.

Sadly the NSA think Windows 2000 is secure.

Where did you hear that? Not from the NSA because they do not comment in operating systems used internally. They are working on a more secure version of Linux which one would have to assume that they use to some extent internally:

http://www.nsa.gov/selinux/

Also the FAQ on that site is where they mention that they do not comment on what software is used within the NSA.

If you'll notice netcraft shows that it changes almost daily. The NSA surely obscures the web server signatures so there's no telling what they are *really* running.

You got it. I was good at flyin' a chair (although the first 11 years of my AF time went to fixing fighter jets). But it just doesn't seem right for computers and Marines to be used together in the same sentence.

As for the actual topic.. the training level is good.. but not best, you can do better.

Anyhow, the NSA user-end systems are 2k, not hte main server..
Not anymore anyhow.

why do we all want to be in the armed forces?
i want to sit at a desk, no chances of a grenade goin off in my face, in fact, the worst dangers i face are at martial arts tournaments, and the chances of frying myself on the computer...
