Debunking DMCA myths... WTF?!

Debunking DMCA myths

1)Gut instinct tells me this article is in-accurate, but I have difficulty knowing exactly why.

2)Even if the article is right, DMCA is no good. If the truth must be stretched to get more people fighting it(and harder), so be it..

3)So people making less of a fuss over it because you "understand it" more, is magically going to make it easier to get removed?

So what do you guys think? Is this guy full of it?

I skimmed the article. He may not be full of it. He's talking about the exact letter of the DMCA. As much of a crap law as it is, it may not be as bad as it sounds. But the fact is that it is cited by lawyers and companies for damn near anything that they dont deem appropriate; a scare tactic. That's why I think the law should be nixed. Now. But I do agree with what he said about people who speak out about it knowing more about the DMCA.

This is an old article... recent events have shown just how bad this law is.

The whole idea of this law was to outlaw stuff whose sole purpose was piracy.  Then, with DeCSS it became something which could possibly be used for piracy... now its anything which will make big corporations money.

This law is 63 *&$%%@# pages long.... and so badly written that it is being used to stop the sale of TONER CARTRIDGES and to imprison a man who made chips that let you run whatever you want on an XBOX.

If the law can be abused (and there is no doubt now that the DMCA can be abused) then it WILL be abused.  Bad laws need to be fixed or removed.

Here's an idea: how about we get everyone on FMS to read a page of the DMCA and post a summary on a thread. Then we put it all together in an easy to understand, short paper and release it to the masses. Yeah, that and I'll get a black top 4a-ge for my car    .
