ok, i'm really neewbie when it comes to this, i want to get Linux, and i'm not really sure how to start, i'm still on Windows XP, so could someone please tell me what i need to know to get started and where i could get Linux

How about word processing - will BeOS run openoffice?

Be runs AbiWord.  Don't think it runs OpenOffice though.
