Three consoles abused to determine which is the strongest.  Excuse the annoying host.

can you not install mplayer in OSX?
then use the win32 codec pack? mplayer is available as source code, and can be compiled with gcc, but i think you might need to be using X...

Why not just download the 'Microshit' one?  If you're boycotting Windows Media Player because you hate the spread of WMV/WMA files, then merely playing them in another player (that decodes them using Windows Media codecs anyway) doesn't really send any message to content providers.

And no, you can't use the win32 codecs because they're for x86, not PPC.  Whether or not mplayer for OS X can utilize the codecs from OS X's Windows Media player, I'm not sure.  Besides, there's no (last I heard) way to use mplayer as an embedded player in OS X, which locks you out of a bunch of content even if mplayer did handle WMV flawlessly in OS X.

And the link you posted about those consoles goes to a page that redirects me to microsoft telling me I need windows media player!

I didnt know until five minutes ago when I went searching for an app to play the file that Microsoft released Media Player 9 for OS X.

However im reluctant to use anything Microsoft.. I hated Windows95, 98, Me, and XP. :thumbdwn:

If that means I can't play WMA files.. I wont loose sleep over it.. I can still use *.Mov, *.Mpg, *.Avi and *.Vid codec's

I couldn't even see it at all.  I have never gotten the MS WMP plugin to work with mozilla, and I even tried the site with MSIE but couldn't see the video.  Too bad.... it sounded interesting.

There, I demicroshat it. :)

Meh, nice concept, but hardly original. It's been done with CD players before (though I can't find a link). The experimenter is pretty charming, though. :D

Not related to this file in particular, but I was just reminded that OS X's version of Windows Media player will not open files with names in non-Latin character sets.

I'm wondering if the spyware built into Media Player on Windows would also be built into the one on OS_X.. I dont want websites to Auto_Update my media (thank you microsoft!) or report back how meny ripped MP3's I have.. It's none of microsoft's buisness and at the end of the day they have only themselves to blame if they loose consumers over it!  :nothappy:

Here have a look at this article and tell me your happy with Media Player  :(
