I am using a win98SE machine modified with 98Lite. Since M$ plans on pulling the plug on updating security flaws for 98SE I plan to uninstall IE when that day comes. But I am having trouble finding a personal finance software that doesn't require IE. I know that a lot of programs that require IE really only needs the M$ HTML rendering engine. At the time of this posting, I don't have IE, and yet I am running ZoneAlarm and EZ Antivirus. The trick is to install IE, install the program, then uninstall IE (it may or maynot work, depends on the program) MS Money 2005 is throwing a hissy fit since IE isn't installed. Now I am beginning to ramble.

Does anyone know of some good financial software that doesn't require IE?

You cannot uninstall IE on 98, not without major fucking around.

However get the following Virus Checker to protect you: http://voidmain.is-a-geek.net/av/

Technically speaking, you are right.  You can not normally uninstall IE from Win98 without out going through the painful process of uninstalling IE.  One day I found http://toastytech.com  (check out Internet Explorer is Evil, it is hilarious) and Toastytech had a link to http://www.litepc.com  .  This is a very good site, and I tried it myself.  My system is much more stable now, and it adds more security as well since you can uninstall normally uninstallable features (such as Outlook express).  It feels nice not having to patch something I don't use.

About GNU Cash, can you install it on a windows machine?  To the best of my knowledge, it is only for Linux/Unix/Non-Windows machines.
