Err... Isn't Linux quite *bad* at crashing (chance of FS annihilation and such)?

Calum:
firstly a properly configured linux machine would be next to impossible to crash via a network, second of all, fucking you deserve all you get trying to kiddie -hack with windows xp and internet exploder! sorry, but you do.

yes it is windows that is the problem, to answer your question.

oh yeah, and i reckon you are at least as vulnerable in windows to a crash as you are in linux. with windows, you crash and your registry corrupts. Basically, any program that was not closed in the correct fashion did not finish writing to the registry, and there's no way to fix it. you just keep on plodding until it is so fucked you need to reinstall. with linux... no registry! problem solved. also, the filesystem in linux is more robust and if you use a journalling filesystem (something windows has not managed to support yet as far as i know) you are safer still.

Just because fsck takes longer to run than scandisk does not mean it is not as good. quite the contrary.

It's like "Script kiddies stike back"     ;)

Grow up! Unless this is a longtime enemy of yours, and you have some unresolvable vendetta, you should have dropped it a while ago. Spamming over ICQ isn't all that rare, and it might have been a mass-spam, not just toward you.

And uhh...why are you using ex-pee? 2000 isn't horrible, but ex-pee is the worst. I refuse to develop for it.

Calum: WTF? I never knew you could hack through IE!

It's also VERY difficult (if at all possible) to crash the MacOS, especially over a network. I tried desperately for hours to no avail. It takes a while to process all of the junk you throw at it, but it does eventually.

1 last thing: Never hack anything that belongs to an ISP. Serious shit happens when you do, especially in the US.

And choasforages, if you see this, check your private messages.

Ok n00b question, what is journaling? How does Linux function with no registry? Can you safely hack an ISP comp or government computer if you were good enough? Or would you always be quite easy to catch, no matter how good you are?

I once asked my brother if it was possible to hack one of those MMORPGS and get a free account. He told me you could(have to be good), but you leave so much footprints that you'd get caught and possibly sued. Interesting, sounds like we leave some footprints that are made of cement.

choasforages:
as for hacking the governement, its possible, but it would only be possible out of someones stupidety, the solarise admin, well, they has a single computer in the back that is connected to the internet, and people watch when you use it. but don't think your going to find anything cool like the movie hackers, youll just find some office dudes sick ass p0rn. and for safty, do you like running away, like being on the run for the rest of YOUR LIFE.

and linux uses text based config files, most notable in the /etc directory to configure everything

as for mmorpgs, you would get cement feet, cuase last time i check, evercrack dealers really want their cash
