I actually read the paper that Dr. Greer co-wrote, and it is quiter interesting.  He doesn't actually want everybody to migrate to any one platform that is more secure, just that there should be a more diverse OS capability so all of the important computers cannot be taken down at once.

It also give a much more detailed and theoretical look at M$'s programming practices and why it is so insecure.  I found the article quite true and entertaining.  If you haven't read the article, I have it up on my webserver:

I thought that was actually a GOOD thing for IT...  gives them more work to do, doesn't it.

Now, Mac OS X is a REAL threat to job security!   :D
