Well, if you are one of those who are sick of XP being such a resource hog, you can do what I did.

Setup progman.exe and copy it to your windows folder.

Then goto your registry to location:

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

and change shell from Explorer.exe to Progman.exe

Make sure Progman.exe is in your windows folder, cos in XP it is in system32 by default.

It replaces the default Windows Explorer (MSIE) by the Program Manager from Windows 95.

How to crash your computer:

Open file://c:\con\con in Windows Explorer.

Result garanteed.   :D  

Edit: I'm not sure about Windows XP, though.

well i replaced it with the windows XP shell. works fine.

then i used a dll to give mIRC a desktop, so i dont even need to  use a shell for windows..

LOL, actually im using mIRC as my windows XP shell now.

If I'm going to switch to Linux, this is what I should be able to do:

1. Browser

2. Mail client

3. Media Player

4. mIRC

5. FTP client

6. Dreamweaver

7. Adobe Photoshop

8. Sprint DSL pppoe connection

9. mouse/keyboard drivers

10. Geforce 4 ti 4200 video drivers

11. Anarchy Online ( 3d RPG game )

12. Norton Systemworks ( not required )

13. mircstats

14. cheetachat for yahoo ( not required )

VideoLAN (my favourite, sorry Doctor V ), XMMS, Mplayer...

10. Geforce 4 ti 4200 video drivers

nVidia has very easy to configure GeForce 4 drivers. Don't stick to the ones that come with Linux if you want to play UT2003, Return to castle Wolfenstein or something...

11. Anarchy Online ( 3d RPG game )

Maybe through Wine... if that doesn't work out, you can always check out Falcons Eye or even the cross-platform Runescape (going to be in full 3d next month).

Thankyou for the replies.  I know mirc will work with Wine, although AO will not run ( yet ) on either Wine or WineX... this has been a long standing debate ever since Funcom, the designers of the aforementioned game Anarchy Online, promised there would be a  native linux client for AO madein 2000, and since then it has been  said by FC that it will never happen, most likely  soemthing about  switching out OpenGL, double patches, not enough man hours... etc etc ad nauseum.

I code in mirc which is why I won't choose an alternate IRC client at this time.

I'll keep you posted how my progress goes.

Not everyone likes coding html by hand (I sure don't) and Dreamweaver doesn't run on Linux (at least natively) to the best of my knowledge.  There is always Mozilla Composer and Open Offices html composer though.  Versions are available for WIndows if you want to check them out when deciding whether to switch.  ;)  AAMOF I like Mozilla Composer so much that I use it in preference to Dreamweaver when I'm on the public Mac OSX boxes - although I'm hardly a master web designer.  ;)

Nope. No Cheetahchat for Linux, but you could see if it would work in Wine. Or... you could realize that chat rooms are festering collections of time wasting, useless jabber. But that's just an opinion.

This is SUSE Linux from BC CANADA

try looking in Linux.   Use KDE and really look around.

I went through my list of things I would need to totally migrate from the Cock suckers OS to Linux

I found that it had everything that I needed, and alot fucking more,the last thing I needed was a native gui for burning ISO's....... KDE 3.2 has one called "K3B"
easier than Nero

get a NEW distro and actually look
