Microsoft prepares reply to iTunes

Refalm:
As we all know: Apple innovates, Microsoft copies.

Now Microsoft is preparing to copy the success of iTunes:

quote:Evan Hansen: While Apple Computer grabs publicity for its new 99 cent music download store, Microsoft is quietly preparing for a counterattack by improving its own technology for supporting subscription music services.
--- End quote ---

quote:Evan Hansen: "We can already support unlimited downloads tethered to the PC," said Jonathan Usher, director of Microsoft's Windows Media division. "The next step is enabling access to unlimited downloads on consumer devices."
--- End quote ---

quote:Evan Hansen: "Downloads are very close to an old-fashioned experience," he added. "Subscriptions are much more of a shift...but the technology isn't right for the shift to happen. We're hoping it will happen this year, that the technology companies will provide portable players that can play the music."
--- End quote ---

Who in their right mind would want to RENT music?

and this DRM clock inside of devices.  The problem with DRM inside of devices is that you will either have to get a new device every month or two, or find a way to patch your DRM back end, why?

because soo many hacks are going to come out to nutralize DRM that MS is going to have to constantly change it.  :D

NM:
If I'm going to pay money, I don't want restrictions at all.
Who would pay money for something worse than you'd get for free (Oh, wait that happens all the time in the OS and software market)  :D  .

TheQuirk:
The last generation of DRM was cracked, but the current version of it, as much as people tried to, was not cracked. Nyah-ha.
