Mac gaming
Siplus:
Seeing as how the Powerbooks now come with OS X 10.4, and I received an email for $100 off any mac purchase... I'm getting it within a week or two.
What about gaming, though? I have checked for Mac ports of all the games that i like, and they all exist (except HL2, but oh well).
I know with linux gaming there was no problem playing games with my windows-using friends, but is there any difference with Mac? I'm just not sure if i'm missing something or not, so please put my worries to rest that i'll be able to join in on the same games as windows/linux clients
bedouin:
No, with the exception of Everquest, we share the same servers as PC users.
Siplus:
I didn't think so, but as I was looking up some of my old favorite games, i saw this:
http://www.macplay.com/support/bg2.php#pcmulti
I figured that sort of thing was probably the exception, not the rule; but what is up with baldur's gate 2 not being able to play with windows baldur's gate 2? this is actually one of the multiplayer games I might be playing with a few of my friends when we all have free time (expansion, to be specific).
Is this just something special with infinity engine games (Balur's Gate, Icewind dale), or are there any other games that there might be some weird problem. Or, is there a way to make them work out anyway?
WMD:
I don't see what "incompatible protocols" would prevent BG2 from working in multiplayer. They wouldn't rewrite the network code for a port...
PS: I was gonna tell you to update your sig, but hey. ;)
skyman8081:
Anti-cheat code is my guess.
It has to verify the binary checksums for both clients.
