microsoft means job security

Sure microsoft O.S. sucks,but if they ever fixed the many problems with there operating system,then I would be out of a job!!!!.Every new O.S. means more problems and better job security for me.

IT is supposed to be about making our lives easier, not paying someone $ 90 to come over to fix a Windows problem. The problem shouldn't be there in the first place.

Also, there are plenty of jobs in websites, programming, enigineering, etc.
I doubt you'll be out of a job when you have much knowledge of computers.

So true. A friend of mine who used to own a wireless ISP once said "I've hired and fired many MCSEs". I've worked with quite a few MSCE's in my career.

However, if everyone ran [insert non microosft OS here], then people that only know Microsoft might be out of a job, but the need for IT support wouldn't go away.

As someone who works in an IT shop with tons of WIndows machines, I would estimate that 98% of our calls are not realated to software malfunctioning. The prevailing issues are users not knowing what theya re doing, and hardware failures. These issues will continue to happen regardless of platform.
