Microsoft Exchange/Outlook alternatives?
« on: 16 August 2005, 00:49 »
At work we use Windows 2003 Server, and I kinda like the convienent features that we get. I can login to any machine in the office as myself, all calendars are shared, I can access it remotely. Its nice.

What is available for Linux or OSX that could do this same thing. I know samba would allow for roaming profiles, but I really don't need that functionality at home (it would be fun to set up though :) ). What I really like, and think I could use at home, is the shared calendar, contacts, etc, that outlook provides. What are my options here?

Oh yeah, also, I'd like to be able to access my work calendar and email without installing virutal PC on my mac and using outlook. Entourage is garbage, and just doesn't handle the calendar as nice. Is there anything I can use to do this?

I had no idea evolution would do that.

But, can I install that on OSX? Doesn't look like it. At least, not without running gnome from within Apples X11. I'd prefer a "cleaner" solution.

If that is my only choice though, then I am all over it :)

From start to finish.  Seems "clean" to me...

I don't want to run gnome from within osx. That's where it gets dirty to me.

But, like I said, if that is my only option, then so be it :)

You wouldn't have to run Gnome, you would just be using GTK.
