The "brightness" of it just kinda irks my eyeballs for some reason. I would consider some sort of patterned background - or no background at all.

An example of a pattern bakground would be the background picture of my Operation Flashpoint page.

Notice how incredibly tiny it is, yet it creates a nice texture effect when used as a background, and blends in with the ovarall green-brown military color scheme of the page...

Again, I like the layout of your page (elegant simplicity), but the bacground pic takes away from the overall aesthetics of the page.

You should just use fucking drupal like a normal luser (me) that doesn't know HTML or CSS. It will do your site a lot of good.
