16 Things That Turn Netsurfers Off
« on: 4 August 2005, 23:25 »
The amazing thing is that Microsoft is NOT mentioned on this list.

Just for fun, some of the high-tech gurus on this forum should point out items that do somehow involve Microshaft, though. For example, some slow-loading pages may be suffering from FrontPage code bloat.

a poem by my computer, Macintosh Vigilante
Macintosh amends a damned around the requested typewriter. Macintosh urges a scarce design. Macintosh postulates an autobiography. Macintosh tolls the solo variant. Why does a winter audience delay macintosh? The maker tosses macintosh. Beneath female suffers a double scum. How will a rat cube the heavier cricket? Macintosh calls a method. Can macintosh nest opposite the headache? Macintosh ties the wrong fairy. When can macintosh stem the land gang? Female aborts underneath macintosh. Inside macintosh waffles female. Next to macintosh worries a well.

What's a popup ad?

You click a link, and a new window opens - except it's a very tiny window, and it's advertising something.

Actually, you don't necessarily have to click a link; there are various ways of triggering pop-ups.

I do not think I have seen a page that does not let me use the back button. If you are a fan of Homestar, you might like this example of web design....

Don't know how you missed them - they're everywhere.  The most annoying kind is the kind that uses JavaScript to detect when you're trying to leave their site and reloads the site for you.  On such sites, if you get into the back submenu, you can skip straight to the page you really wanted.  I don't know what kind of asshole came up with that, but I hope they bump their heads really hard at least once a week.

It doesn't block all popups.
This is not a Windows help forum, however please do feel free to sign up and agree or disagree with our views on Microsoft.

I know. For that matter, I don't even know if Worker201 does use Firefox.

Yes, I do use Firefox at work (and Safari at home), and yes, I know what a popup is.  But seriously, I haven't seen one in a long time.  I don't know if Firefox is blocking them, or if they just aren't around as much anymore.  Perhaps the popups that Aloone-Jonez sees all the time are Windows-specific - meaning that they rely on non-standard JavaScript methods that only IE supports.  Because I have literally not seen an unwanted popup yet this year.

I haven't ever seen an unwanted popup in firefox either.
That's why I thought it _did_ block all of them..
