Tiger and the G3
hm_murdock:
Anybody have any experience with Tiger on a G3 system? I'm debating whether or not I should get it... performance will be the deciding factor.
worker201:
I haven't yet, but I heard from someone awhile back that it was good - ran just as well as Jaguar or Panther. I think that much Apple software is able to determine what your system specs are, and adjust accordingly. So maybe Tiger on a G3 wouldn't be as accelerated as a G5, or have quite the same features. But don't quote me on that.
hm_murdock:
Well, I figure things like Dashboard are going to run dog ass slow, but then, this old 500MHz G3 machine surprises me sometimes... like running World of Warcraft at a near-bearable speed!
WMD:
Good to have you back, Jimmy. :)
Bedouin has a G3/800 iBook with Tiger. He says the speed is fine. Dashboard on G3s is ok, because they disable the ripple effect on those machines.
The oldest machines supported for Tiger is the B&W G3 tower, and the Pismo Powerbook. Which is close to the 500MHz iMac you have. You might get away with it.

It's worth it. There's a guy who sold-back a copy of it already on CD to the local Apple reseller. I might take a gander at it, as the owner always gives good discounts on stuff like that.
PS It's good to be back!
