Getting BeOS Max...
« on: 14 August 2005, 00:14 »
Is impossible. I've been trying all day, and none of the DL sites work for it. BeBits still has all the versions linked, but none of them are there. I'd like to have BeOS, but I don't really feel like paying upwards of $100 for Zeta right now...

I have it. If you wish, I'll make an ISO and send it to you.

i just made a BeOS 5 3.1MAX PE beta disk, you need to burn the cue file, BTW it was god slow on my athlon 64 and it would only run in safe mode, Tell me the specs of your machine., If it actually boots from the CD does it kind of reboot when the BeOS splash apears?

Well, it turns out my CD is too scratched to work. :(

I would need a replacement, too.

P3 633, 512MB, GeForce4.

I got 5 PE going, it was a simple thing. I had to move the display cable over to the old built-in video (Intel 810). It runs fine (save for lack of network support). I'd like to get Max going on there, though, if possible.

As for booting, it's booting off floppy.

I got mine here, it will run great on your hardware. But your burining softwqare must support to burn from a .cue file.

But my burning software is Disk Utility in OS X, with no support for these "not quite ISO" files that have become so popular. I wonder if that's why these things came about?

Windows weenie: Hey, did you know that Macs can burn ISOs right out of the box now?

Windows dork: NO!

Windows weenie: Yeah! It's okay, though. There's this thing called a cue file which all of us can use for stuff that they can't use unless they have Toast, and even then, it's not definite!

Windows dork: Why? Wouldn't they all have Toast if they have a burner? Why don't they have EZ CD CREATOR?!

Windows weenie: No, those guys have all the disc burning tools they need... built in! And it's not like the crappy ones in XP that say they can burn discs, but don't really.

Windows dork: Wow... and they get iMovie, iTunes, iPhoto... hey, hold on. I'm going to go buy a Mac.

Why can't these guys give you an option in these matters?

you know .cue is a configuration file that tells the burning software how to burn the ISO and other files

However, every time I've tried to burn an ISO that has a cue with it, it fails. Funny?

Not bashing it, just saying, it doesn't work for me.

You don't need the .cue file. In OS X just follow the readme1st.txt instructions using the CDRecord utility.
