Gates said Microsoft will offer software to detect malicious applications and that the company will keep it up-to-date on an ongoing basis. He did not say when the software would be available or whether Microsoft would charge for it.
Although progress is being made against spam and viruses, Gates said the adware and malware problem is getting worse.
"This malware thing is so bad," he said in a speech at the Computer History Museum here. "Now that's the one that has us really needing to jump in."
It's also a problem that has affected Gates personally. He said his home PCs have had malware, although he has personally never been affected by a virus.

Nice vaporware anouncement.
Windows is just getting ridiculous. You need to pay lots of money for windows. You need to pay more money for anti-virus software. You need to pay more money for anti-scumware software.

To Mister Gates, I would like to recommend SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard from this site. BitDefender Free couldn't hurt, either. Oh, that's right, they're all FREE - and FREE software is bad, m'kay? Numbnuts.

IE is the main reason for such widespread spyware and adware infections, so gate has an obligation to get rid of the shit, cos IE so unsecure
Heywood:
it's about time they started addressing this stuff, even if half-heartedly. You have to remember the average MS user is scared to death to go download anti-spyware tools. That and they dont notice it's there in the first place.
