GIMP is good, when you learn to use it. Photoshop however has far more features.

I agree, I've been using The GIMP for a fair while, and it is really nice to work with once you learn how to do a certain amount of stuff. :)

You're funny.

You do realise that The GIMP is an absolute BITCH to work with, right?

It's only for FSF blow-hards who think that looking at a peice of non-free software will cause it to anally violate them. Any graphics person worth a damn uses Photoshop. GIMP can compete with PS-wannabe's, like Paint.Net, MGI Photosuite, Paintshop pro. Programs that SUCK.

It works great for me ... maybe it's because I never ask too much from either program ?
I suppose for "advanced" editing, Photoshop is a better choice.
I never liked Photoshop, in fact, I found several free programs that did what PS did better (better filters and color, brightness, contrast adjustment) ... back when I was still running Window$

While Photoshop is pretty damn neat sometimes, I don't think it is geometrically better than any other graphics program.  It's geometrically more "full" than other programs, but as far as interface and simplicity go, it's only arithmetically better than the others.

Thus, the choices.  If you use every filter every week and try every setting, then you are probably a professional photo-manipulator.  You need Photoshop.  For every other user, price and familiarity will be the main factors.  Even MsPaint can make you a "Save your drama for your llama" banner.

You can also use Photoshop for art. Take a look around DevientArt. Most of the cell style animation (think anime) is done in Photoshop.

I'm allways on DA looking for stuff. It's amazing what can be don with Photoshop and a graphics pad.
Windows XP Service Pack 2. Because we couldn't be arsed the first time.

Windows 98 Second Edition. Look, now you don't need that bloody CD to install new hardware.

Windows Vista. Even your computer knows you have a small penis.

Windows Blackcomb. We are planning the OS after Vista, which is allready a year late.

Windows ME, the Marmite Operating System.

XP Mobile. Take your errors with you.

Yeah, GIMP is not quite there yet. I still use photoshop.
I'm often asked why I hate Microsoft - "What did they ever do to you?". Well, I'll tell you. They made dodgy programs and standards which have wasted hundreds of hours of my time involving lost work in crashes and stupidity.
