Are you sick of the "start" menu? Do you want to change your internet explorer logo (without kissing m$ ass)? Do you want to rid yourself of every annoying windows logo on your system? Well, I have the answers for you..
There is a couple of apps that allow you to modify anything (including apps too). This allows you to say, change the word "start" on the start menu to "M$ sux!!!". PE explorer is one such tool:

There are also others.. (http://smile.gif) ResourceEditor and Exescope come to mind here. These allow you to even change your dos prompt (i have changed mine to say "Try again stupid" when you type a wrong command). These are much easyer then hexeditors, but sometimes there are limitations.. you'll find out though. Have fun with this

Heh heh, usually the first thing I do when forced to use a Windows platform is search/replace "Microsoft Internet Explorer" with "Macrosuck Internet Exploder" in the registry. It looks much better in the IE and OE title bars. And change the startup/shutdown screens with something like: "Dumb ass, why start this inferior OS when you could be using a real one?" on startup and "Good move, now boot into a real OS!" on shutdown.

I haven'ttried all of these, and there's bound to be more, and i really think some of these are a waste of memory, but they are all free, and that's what matters...

yeah, well with just about everything else I do on the windows platform, i just use cracks/keygens with them.. My os of choice is Linux, so I guess I have gotten used to not paying for apps.. just look up the cracks for this program on yahoo or something..
try: "Exescope" keygen crack
Good Luck
PS. I changed all the Windows logos to DBZ ones (http://smile.gif)

You don't need any of those programs mentioned anywhere in this thread to perform the tasks that they perform. Just run "regedit" and Search/Replace. If you are concerned about what a registry key is for, search the web, there are reams of documentation on what registry keys are for what. These people writing these programs just make money off the typical Windows idiot. Don't be a Windows idiot. In fact don't use Windows for that matter. The registry is not that hard (even if it is a piece of shit). Forget that stupid warning message MS sticks on everything about editing the registry can be dangerous (yeah, using Windows period can be dangerous). They want their users to be stupid!
-
haha.. ResHacker is FREE.. and just find the cracks to the rest. Fuck the registory.
-
regedit is free too, and already on your system.
-
if ya wanna have some real fun with the windoze interface, just hexedit Explorer.exe
(http://smile.gif)
-
or if ya wanna fix windoze the right way....
go into DOS and type format c:

This site should (http://www.completelyfreesoftware.com/windows_extras_w95.html)contain enough to keep the windows customiser fanatics busy for days. As far as i know everything on this site is freeware.
I can recommend RegClean (even though it says M$ make it) it's small, and it does what it's supposed to, very well, for free (althouh it's closed source). If M$ make it, i have no idea why they don't ship it with the OS and put it on the startbar. It needs it.
Not sure about the rest of the programs here though... good luck, and have that windows CD ready for yr next reinstall!
-
Yea hexediting explorer.exe is fun.. just make sure you don't screw it up.. or your up shit creek with out a paddle. Then again, you could just use linux and not have to deal with that stuff.
-
you should see the "special" version of windoze on my computer.
I hex edited and used PE Explorer on explorer.exe, shell32.dll, kernel32.dll, and some random dll's in the system folder.
i changed the blue screens of death to say that "windoze fucked up whatever it was wasting its time with, get the hell out of here and into linux"
