Title: Microsoft Windows Vista & Vista Blinds
Post by: sledz41 on 24 January 2006, 13:06
Ok I know that people outside of Australia might have a hard time understanding this but over here we have an advertisment on tv from a Company that retails in Window Coverings, there company is called Vista.

It seems very Ironic that Microsofts next Windows is named Vista.

Both uses of the word Vista are related to Windows. One to be applied to windows and other to be thrown out of the windows.

Tired of those ugly XP Blinds on your Windows, Upgrade to Vista! Call Vista Now!! (Vista Blinds and Venetians)

They'll probably come up with some other name for the Australian market.  Longhorn wouldn't be a bad idea.  Nor would "if you thought Sony's rootkit cds were bad, wait till you try the new Windows".

Why do they even bother with ads ? They're a fucking monopoly ... there is no other choice ... at least for most people (the really stupid ones) ... the ones who say "my computeh hates meeeehhh !!!!" ... or "I'm not gooddh with computeeehhs"

maybe thats why they chose the name... you know their operating system is "Windows".... They saw a company calling their windows "Vista" and decided to steal the name :)

I'm sorry Master... I highly doubt Microsoft got the idea from an australian company, no offence. I used to live in Redmond and still maintain a couple friends up there. The worker bees have little on their minds outside of work, family and stuff they can buy, management is not much different. Vista is a very good name for an Operating System regardless of it's relativeness to a window or "view".

Slackware is a good name for an operating system ... Vista is not ... it sounds too Mexican ... like Hasta la Vista (http://www.groovyscreens.com/gallery/galleries/pTech/windows_vista/pwg_high/hasta_la_vista1.jpg) ... :D ;)

I think life would be so much cooler if we used codenames instead of marketed OS names.  "Currently I am using Stentz, but I had great results with Tettnang, Yarrow, and Heidelberg before that."

:tux:  says:  See, but there is a very old saying that I think fits in with this whole vista/vista/Vista line of thought:  If you tell someone that the turd in your hand is Gold, they might beleive you. In the end, it is still just a turd.   :tux:

although, the code name of 'Whistler' kind of evokes a picture of some sniper wating to kill you or.. hey wait a tic!  :tux:
