How long have you been driving for then?

Then you'll become a n00b driver.

I'd shut up about this if I were you as you obviously have no clue.

EDIT:

... The thread title is annoying in and of itself. Besides it looks as though he's trying to garner hits to his nigh on nonexistent blog.

This isn't worthy of The Moron Zone, and you know it.  Just because he wants to share some idiot-driver photos with us?  I've got news for you, I did shit like that AFTER FIVE YEARS EXPERIENCE.  How do you think that makes me feel, that you think he's gonna go right out and crash his auto when he first gets it?  You'd think his linking a blog were a crime, unprecedented even.

actually i made this thread because i got a lift from a n00b driver, there was a car at the end of the street that had stopped before we even got onto the street and somehow she missed the car even though it was there for at least half a min before we hit -_-

btw, are is the front bumper supposed to go flying across the street when you crash? :\

Depends on the speed of collision ... you can do a little collision physics and find out ...

Equate momentums:

mass(car) x velocity(car) = mass(bumper) x velocity(bumper)

you can solve for velocity(bumper)

velocity(bumper) = (mass(car) x velocity(car)) / mass(bumper)

make sure units are consistent ... this is assuming the car transferred all its momentum to the bumper ... it's a good approximation ... not like we need accuracy here

By the way ... I was in a car 'accident' 7 days ago ... my car slid into the concrete barrier during the rain at about 65 mph (I think my tires were to blame, they are made for dry weather ... I've slid out at slower speeds like 40 mph on sand) ... luckily I'm not dead :D ... but my car is :( ... this is my first crash after 5 years of driving ... I can tell you it ended in the best possible outcome other than not sliding at all, it could have been much worse as there was heavy traffic about ... I'll drive more carefully and slower next time, although I was within the speed limit.

You were probably going too fast for the road conditions.

I admit I am a n00b driver, I passed my test about 3 years ago but I only started driving last summer, it was weird getting behind the wheel again, I'd almost forgotten how to drive so I had to re-teach myself. Now although I've been driving since August I'm not very good because I don't drive very often as I share the car with my sister and I have a motorbike to get me to work and back and believe me I can't afford to have an accident at 65mph.

I've been driving for 10 years in April. I've owned two cars... the first one retired because I wore it out (925,043 miles on a 1987 Accord and it was still in good working order). It'll take you about four to six years to figure out your "style". I'm one of the guys who gets a Honda, slides the seat waaay back, sets the seatback straight up, lowers the wheel all the way down, and goes total badass on it, doing kickass things like obeying the speed limit, paying attention to the road, not talking on stupid ass phones, driving a fuel efficient vehicle, and being all-round better and on a moral high ground above the other shitstains on the road.

Yes... I'm that dude who got in your way by taking advantage of the fact that you're a shitty driver with an unmaneuverable vehicle, then insulted you more by acting like you weren't there and NOT flipping you off.

If you're really unlucky, I threw an empty coke bottle at you.

Been driving for 17 years now, and I'm on car #5.  First was an 80 Buick Skylark that my friends insisted I make a skater car - which means filling the thing with garbage, covering entire windows with stickers, burning the upholstery with cigarette lighters, and removing the headliner to put up an Anthrax poster.  It was high school and I had a mullet, what can I say?  Next up was an 81 Oldsmobile Omega, which was just like the Skylark except it had 4 doors.  Drove that thing for a few years, until the vacuum system started to go, making it take like 30 minutes to start the car without stalling.  On a road trip from Colorado to Washington, it did just fine, but on the way home, the exhaust system fell off, the speedometer cable broke, the hood latch failed, and a couple other things went wrong.  Sold it to a junkyard for like $200, and bought an 80 BMW 320i with no transmission.  Added a tranny, and replaced the dashboard, sunroof, upholstery, and most of the engine myself.  Just before I got a chance to take it in for a paint job, some crazy old woman t-boned me a block from my house, totalling the car.  Fortunately the insurance settlement was enough to get me another BMW 320i that actually had paint on it.  I drove that car for years, and it was fucking solid.  The starter was blown, but I took that car with me to Portland, and then down to Texas.  Finally, the starter got so bad that it was making me late, and I found out that getting a new one put in would cost more than the value of the car.  So I sold the car to a scrap metal dealer for $36 (that's all I could get for it).  The car had well over 300,000 miles on it, and it stalled on the scrapyard's scale and would not restart.

Anyway, now I have a 94 Volkswagen Jetta.  It gets about 30mpg.  But I bicycle so much that I only have to put gas in once every 2 months.  Just got the rear brakes replaced yesterday.  I'll probably keep this car for awhile.

Oh, and I hatehatehatehatehate to drive.  I wish I didn't have to.  But I do - here in America, for those of you who don't know, most of us could not do important daily things like grocery shopping or going to work without a car.

I hate driving too, I'd cycle, motorcycle or even walk if it's possible.

You would become a pancake at 65 mph on a motorbike  ... and you are probably right maybe I was going too fast, now I drive extra slow in the rain ... still I think the tires had a lot to do with it too.

I've been riding a 150cc motorcycle for 8 months.

reached 100mph, crashed 4 times, $3500 damage (not bothering to repair, as long as the back wheel spins) and love every minute of it.

motorcycles are cool you just give them shit and they love it.

cars suck. The autoturnoff indicators annoy me as much as apples non maximisable windows...the motorcycle felt natural as soon as I hoped on.

Oh and its a great excuse to wear really cool leathers :P

Shit how did you get 100mph out of your 150cc motorcycle?

I have a Honda CG125 and it does just over 70mph at a push!

What sort of engine does it have, is it a 2-stroke or 4-stroke?

Mine's 4-stroke, more reliable, lower fuel consumption but much slower. To be honest I'm thinking about getting something a bit quicker, nothing too big as I don't want to kill myself, perhapps something twist and go a 250cc Vespa.

Uhhh ... so you crashed 4 times at 100 mph ? or less ? (I'm betting less) ... and were not seriously injured ?

I don't believe he crashed 4 times at 100mph, I think he means it can reach speeds of 100mph and he's crashed 4 times, I suspect these events are unrelated.

I've only crashed twice, once when I I was on my way back from twon and I stupidly decided to take it off road, I thopugh to myself "hmm I wonder where that road goes". The road gradually got thinner and thinner until it was just a dirt track, my back wheel spun in a pot hole and I came off into a ditch. The other time I was pulling out of work onto the main road thinking I didn't have to be carful as it wasn't frosty or wet and my back wheel sliped on a cat's eye and I slipped over. None of my accidents were serious, I escaped from both with minor bruises even though I wasn't wearing any protective trousers but I've got myself some now.

What was a cat's eye doing on the road ... dammit that's fucking nasty ... a cat's eye just sittig there on the road, all slimy and slippery :D ... and being so small and hard to see about 10x more dangerous than a banana peel
Title: Re: Stay the fuck away from the n00b drivers!
Post by: Aloone_Jonez on 30 January 2006, 22:37
I don't know what you call them in your area but where I live a cat's eye is a glass ball with a reflective backing. These are mounted in pairs on small blocks of rubber embedded in small iron inserts in the middle of the road, they got their name because when your head lamps shine on them they look like cat's eyes. When they are wet they can become slipery and become dangerous to motorcyclists just like drain and manhole covers.

Ohhh .. those things ... I dunno what they're called here ... I suppose cat eye would be appropriate even though there is a chance a real cat eye could also be on the road ... it could just pop out when it's being squashed by say a large truck

There was once a rat on the road, it was spasming all over and shit ... I almost ran it over ... nah, let it suffer :D

LOL I think a cat's eye would be smashed to a pulp togeather with its brains and guts if a cat was run over by a lorry, I suppose I don't really want to find out. :D

What the fucking FUCK?!?  That's insane!  You should've gone for a million.  A guy did that with a Volvo once, and upon showing proof to the company, they awarded him with a new one!

I heard about that too, they wanted to take it to pieces to see what had made the engine so robust, I bet the person who bought it off you made some money.

I got a fxr150 20 bhp 6 speed box and a 1km 20 degree slope. The fxr is a great little machine, the only 4 stroke below 250cc with a bit of racy tuning I know of. cost me about 1400US to put it on the road. Its runs on fumes as well, is only 5 years old/18000km electiric speedo etc.

If you get a faster bike get better tyres and leathers and hope :)

Its only the corners you have to worry about so as long as your brakes work and you're concentrating you'll be sweet.
