Title: Slashdot > Digg
Post by: anphanax on 17 April 2006, 02:21
http://digg.com/programming/Why_Python_is_better_the_Java

Just one of the many stupid things that appears in that RSS feed daily. Why the hell would people be comparing an Apple (compiled bytecode language) to an Orange (scripting language).

http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/04/16/1351217&from=rss

Actually useful article, goes into discussing Microsoft ignoring the HOSTS file, and people then discuss why (the most obvious reason being security, since malware can and does change the HOSTS file to try and prevent things from working e.g. Windows Update. Just another reason to avoid running under accounts in the Administrators group)

It's like that article on Digg about Ruby on Rails destroying .NET, or another article about how the PS3 will cost $800+. Sensationalist, yes. Accurate... yeah, right.

And I thought Slashdot was bad about dupes... (e.g. http://digg.com/technology/U.S._Lags_Behind_in_High-Speed_Internet_Access)

I could come up with more examples, but w/e. Wondering how others feel about digg/slashdot/kuro5hin/etc.

I just check Slashdot anytime I'm bored (usually more than once per day, none when I'm busy or extremely lazy (which is when I watch TV all day)), has some interesting articles usually.

Slashdot articles are moderatored Digg aint
Digg = quantity

JAVA can be used as a scripting language:
JavaServer Pages (http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/).
